Piggy Bank

It's that time of the year again!

The time to 'break open' my SMILEY piggy bank and count how much I have saved this year. The money is to buy Christmas presents for my nephew n nieces.
This year is not too bad.....slightly more than last year.....

The problem is...how to change the coins into notes!!!!!!

--------------------- Sawbear Travel -------------------------

Last Trip to JB for This Year....

Wanted to go to JB last weekend but unable due to bad weather and traffic. Yesterday, decided to go in even though the traffic was bad.

Was supposed to meet Alan at the SG custom but he overslept and could not make it! As usual, Raymond was late but...... at least he made it!

Initially we queued at the CW1/CW2 but then we noticed only the SBS buses were coming in. So, we decided to switch lane and then the CW1/CW2 buses started to appear with no SBS buses in sight! Just not our day!

Finally got onto the bus and glad to get a seat as we expected the bad traffic on the causeway would take a while. The bus got onto the causeway, moving slowly, and suddenly , the driver took a right lane and then drove up a lane next to all the trucks and made a left turn for bus only and soon we arrived at the Malaysia Immigration! Wow! We did not have to queue together with the cars! That was great!

We stopped at OLD TOWN for a coffee n snack before going over to take a look at the IPad store at City Square. The IPad is cheaper over here in Malaysia! Raymond was so tempted to buy.

Took a cab ride to our favourite lunch venue (near the STORE) - 顺发 Bak Kut Teh. As usual, I would order the same stuff and the waiter would look at me with disbelief! Sure you could finish the food?????!!!!!! As always, we finish everything!

Too full for massage, we went over to Leisuremall for Raymond to get his magazines/comic books! I always tease him on his 'Sailor Moon comics'! At the massage place, found that most of the masseurs were no longer working there. Decided to try a new Malay masseur and I have to admit that he was pretty skillful! Will definitely request for him again!

Went over to Sutera Mall, near 皇后 to wait for Jason. Have not caught up with him for many months and decided to stay back late to catch up dinner with him and James. While waiting, decided to get a hair cut. It was quite good - M$35 by senior.

Finally around 8:30pm, they came and took us to somewhere nearby for dinner. We went to a shop 家乡 for Chinese 煮炒. The dishes were delicious. We had 7 dishes and the billed came up to about M$105! That's very cheap! Definitely going back there again!

Jason gave us a lift to the immigration and though there was no queue at the immigration, the SBS bus 160 / 170 queue was terribly long! We decided to take another bus - 950 where the queue was short. The, the same thing happened, buses for the other queue started to come in, except ours. Finally the bus came and we managed to get on board with a seat. Even though it was already 11pm, the traffic going back was bad. The congestion started just when the bus leaves the building. I noticed that the F1 track is gone and the vehicles did not have to meander down the F1 track at all. Also, I found that we could skip all the queue and soon arrived back into the SG immigration.

By the time I got back, it was just before the clock struck 12! Hope the taxi did not turn into pumpkin and Raymond had to walk home.......

20 Nov 2010

A week ago, Alan called and suggested meeting up for wine.... well, decided to gather for wine on Saturday, 20 Nov. Called a few people but most of them had to give it a miss last minute.

Anyway, Derrick and I met up in the afternoon as we were supposed to go and get some snacks for the wine session. We met up in Chinatown and he drove to Mandarin Gallery where we went to an interesting place - ARTEASTIQ (tea lounge by Marxx) on the 4th floor. The front was some exquisite furniture and you could see some people in the back sipping away. S$48++ high tea set for 2.

We managed to get seats and I have to admit...service was slow! It took quite a while before drinks were served. I ordered hot Pomelo tea and Derrick had hot Lycee tea. Mine tasted very good..... Derrick's was bland..... then, we found, he had to put brown sugar!

The tea set was simple, salmon roll, tuna on toast, wagyu wrap and shellfish salad..all in small portions.... yup! That's about it! Expensive, of course!!!!!!!!!! Guess what,. it was full house!

We went over to Taka to meet Alan and to buy some fusion bak kwa, some skewers from TORI, noodle in egg wrap and popiah before going over to Jones for the crackers, cheese and some dried fruits.

By the time we got to Wong's place, it was already past 7. Wasted no time to set up the snacks and also to chill the wines.

It was a small gathering this time but we had a great time watching TV programmes (爱; ICE AGE & VAMPIRE 'S DAIRY) and chatting away, with good wines, courtesy of Derrick. We also had snack from Japan, courtesy of Alan.
There was this special bottle that is only available from 18 Nov onwards (every year) and you would only keep it for 6 months.

Every party must come to an end , and so was our's. By the time I got home, it was just before my shoes changed to ........

Stephen's Trip to the Merlion City

10 Nov

Meeting after 6pm? Unable....had to go to the airport to welcome Stephen, arriving from Hong Kong. Raymond was kind enough to go with me. Arrived at Terminal 3 about 7pm (early) and decided to have something to eat at the arrival hall. Ordered a bowl of curry chicken at Killiney Kopitiam (freezer chicken).

Stephen was surprised and glad when he saw Raymond. He did not expect Raymond would come to the airport!

After some discussion, decided to go to Bugis for dinner. Went to the Fish restaurant ....was still crowded when we got there but managed to find seat. After a few bowls of soup noodle and fried chicken wings, we called it a night.

11 Nov

The morning started with heavy downpour. By the late morning, it started to clear up. It's Sentosa Day and we made our way by bus to Vivocity to catch the monorail (S$3 ride) across to Sentosa.

The waterfront station was an interesting place to start with. That's where the resorts, casino and Universal Studio were. We also went over to the beach to take a look. We got to try the sky ride and also the famous LUGE. It was really exciting!

Met up with Raymond at Chinatown for dinner. Went to the food court and had Fried Kway Teow, Chui Kway and satay. Obviously those were not enough and we moved to the restaurant opposite Central@ClarkeQuay for Bak Kut Teh. By the end of the meal, Stephen was too full for words but Raymond was only 3/4 full......

12 Nov

Had to work today. Unable take the day off...only 3 of us answering the hot line....very busy day. Derrick has been very kind to show Stephen around. Stephen came over top the office to drop off his backpack. Derrick and Albert came over to have lunch. Went to the Japanese restaurant opp the office. The rest of the afternoon.....(Derrick brought him to Bugis for desserts at Ah Chew, to see the Merlion and finally to Marina Bay Sands ...casino).

Met up with Stephen after work and we headed out to Grand Mercure Roxy for our 2N stay. Surprisingly, the room was rather spacious and cosy.

We then proceeded to Jang Shou Korean BBQ at Katong Village (just behind the hotel) where Gerald, Jay and Sam were alredy there waiting. Being a Friday night, it was quite busy with lost of patrons. The spread was very good and everyone was busy eating and eating away!. Lots of meats!

After dinner, we decided to try the Awfully Chocolate shop nearby. We managed to squeeze a treat out of Raymond. Ended up with a pint of chocolate ice cream, 1 slice of the Super stacked Chocolate cake and 1 slice of the White Chocolate Butterscotch block . I actually asked 'What flavour (ice cream) do you have' and the sales lady looked at me and said : Chocolate! ... but Of course!

The slices were good and the ice cream was awesome! The chocolate ice cream was AWFULLY GOOD!

13 Nov

Went over to Marine Parade for a look- see and breakfast (at the American Embassy) and then to Parkway Parade before going over to East Coast Park.

A short walk along the beach and soon we arrived at the Seafood International Market & Restaurant for lunch. Wong, Tony, Raymond, Sam, Alan and Derrick came to have lunch with us. The ala-carte buffet spread was quite good and we certainly had more than enough!

By the time we finished lunch, we was already after 2pm! As usual, a meal is not complete without dessert and we decided to go over to Awfully Chocolate shop again......and.......on Raymond! Everyone enjoyed the chocolate ice cream - AWFULLY DELICIOUS!

We went back to the hotel to rest and even by dinner time, we were too full to eat! Went for a stroll along East Coast road and also to Parkway Parade again. Had some light snacks before we went back to the hotel.

14 Nov

A very early to the airport for his departure back to Hong Kong.

The trip was long overdue but glad that he finally made it here.....

A Good Evening

4 Nov 2010

It's been a while since I went to Katong for my favourite steamboat...been a long while!

Last night, made reservation for dinner at Tian Fu. Managed to get seat....surprising! The reservation was for outside table but when I got there, they managed to get me an inside table (air con) provided I would leave before 9pm. I agreed.

The menu was new....I noticed the popular stock base has a price tag. Only the common stock comes free.....my favourite Satay stock and dry scallop stock are chargeable. The buffet spread is not huge (limited according to the table next to mine) but sufficient for me, though.

We ordered our faviourite items and tucked away happily........ We still reckon this is still the best steamboat as far as the stock base is concerned. Great chili too!

Dinner is never complete without desserts. We went over to Little Ice Cream Kafe (lick.com.sg) for homemade ice cream and waffle. Indeed, this place has very delicious waffle!

It was a very satisfying dinner........

Charles & Diana

Charles & Diana is a loving couple who believes that each has found true love in each other. In their so-journ, they have met and spent their lives with others but those relationships did not last......... Finally, after many years of looking around they found each other. The only problem was they were miles apart.

Diana met Charles, by chance, when she was on a holiday. She had a wonderful time that few days.......she did not expect anything would flourish when she left. She was wrong........ Both continue to keep in touch and make effort to meet up and as time went by, the relationship developed.

Diana had a previous long distance relationship and for quite a long time, she was not in favour of it. She would discourage others when they seek her advice. Now, she is involved in another long distance relationship.......

Long distance relationship is never easy. A great deal of commitment is needed. Charles & Diana knew that each hasd to put in effort and even sacrifices to keep the relationship going. Taking the relationship for granted would end the whole thing........

For Diana, it was love that she has for Charles that is important. It was not the distance. She felt that she has found her true love and she wanted to make every effort to treasure it. She believed that she must continuously make effort to remind herself that she must not take the relationship for granted and she would treasure every moments she has with Charles.

For Charles, he loved Diana very much but he felt that Diana was overacting. He believes that as long as he has his love for Diana in his heart, it was good enough. He was not the sort that would express his love for her openly.

What the future holds for them, they do not know. The only thing Diana knows is that she will continue to love and cherish her relationship with Charles. Nothing lasts for ever......she hopes her love for Charles would.........

JB with a Twist

30 Oct

Met up with Raymond and Small Ben at Kranji MRT. The queue was exceptionally long and as usual, the yellow bus took a very long time to come. When we cleared the SG immigration, the bus queue was not as bad as I thought. The worst came - the traffic jam......all the way to JB custom.

As expected, we made our way to our 1st stop - Bak Kut Teh lunch at our favourite, rundown, crowded and hot restaurant. The food was as always, simply delicious!

After lunch, we went over for our foot reflex. The 80mins session was very relaxing for me. Have always enjoyed the session.

Went over to Leisuremall for Raymond to buy his comic and we stopped over at a newly opened Kopitiam (just outside Leisuremall) - Chamek Kopitiam. We ordered some snacks and drink. Believe me, you would not want to go back there again! The food was below average.

We decided to have early dinner but we did not really ordered a lot.... the seafood was delicious but a bit pricey! The Balonglong drink was simply mind blowing, though!

City Square Mall had a Food Street in the atrium and it was rather interesting. While we were about to proceed to the JB immigration, we saw a counter selling train ticket. We found that there is train back to Singapore. As Raymond has never tried the train, we decided to try it out. Small Ben managed to buy the tickets off the counter though we were told that we could only buy 30 mins before the train departs. We waited eagerly at 7:30pm for 8pm departure. Then, it was 8pm and we were still waiting to go in. The clock was ticking but we were still waiting......we learned the train was delayed. Then, we were allowed to go in......we had to clear immigration....and then we had to wait again at the holding area. Finally, we managed to board the train - free seating.

The train left the station and slowly made its way to Singapore. I saw the traffic jam coming back to Singapore. Glad I was in the train instead. It came to a stop at the SG immigration and we all had to get off to clear immigration and custom. Then back to the train and finally arrived at Tanjong Pagar station.

It was an experience for Raymond....... however, I do not think I would not consider the train again (if it is always late!).

The train journey was about 1 hour (in total) and only cost M$5. So many trips to JB, 1st time taking the train back!

-------------------- Sawbear Travel ---------------------

Buffets

Having been passing by this new small Japanese buffet at the basement of 313. Really small spread.......but it stated QUALITY JAPANESE BUFFET...

TARAFUKU FISH MARKET & JAPANESE RESTUARANT - www.cfc.com.sg

Decided to try the [place out and we finally. Met up with Raymond and we decided to take a look at the mini spread. The catch was that they were serving unlimited serving of black pig meat for shabu shabu.

The waiter brought a small shabu shabu pot and our 1st plate of the black pig slices. It was delicious! The sashimi tasted good too, especially the sword fish slices that melted in the mouth! The ramen was very good as well!

Honestly, the spread was not extensive, like other places. However, there was more than enough to eat! When Raymond, reckoned that he had enough, he lamented that he had yet to try the chicken dishes. Though the desserts were very limited, they were rather tasty!

The charges were not expensive.....the spread was not extensive........however, the quality was there.....it is worth going back again!

Korean BBQ buffet at Tanjong Pagar....that was what the sms stated. Was it supposed to be Tanjong Katong, I wondered. Well, it was Tanjong Pagar. Derrick brought us to this small restaurant along Tanjong Pagar - 2D1N SOJU BANG. On the 2nd level of the small restaurant, it was serving BBQ buffet. We managed to get a table and soon after , the whole place was packed, on a Thursday night!

Compared to the restaurant at Katong, this place is centrally located but the spread was limited. We have some marinated pork and beef (not as extensive spread as Katong's) and lots of prawn. The meat were rather tasty and for the price we paid, it was worth the money.

Would we go back again? Certainly! next time, we will go with a empty stomach!

This place is a lot more accessible and also for the price we paid, certainly worth making more trips there!

Catching Up

It started with a sms greeting to Mr Tan on his birthday. Also his wedding anniversary. A thank you reply and another sms about catching up for a meal/drink soon.

This afternoon, we finally met for lunch! After a very long time!

Looking back, I knew Chong Huat somewhere in 1991 when I about about to leave Chan Brothers for New Zealand. I offered some travel advice on Japan and he was grateful and asked for my contact. Since then, we kept in touch and even when I got back and went to a few agencies, he and his family let me handled all their travels.

Even when I was no longer in travel, I was still helping them. Ban Ser (his wife) would contact me for advice.

It was great catching up with him. Happy to know that his career is doing well, his wife and children are doing well too!

Chong Huat is a very busy man but he made the effort to catch up lunch with me. I am very touched by his friendship and I am glad to know that he appreciates mine as well.

Take care, my friend! May good health and happiness be with you for many more years to come!

TEAMBUILDING...22 Oct

1st time ....the hot line is closed on a weekday! No work! Hooray!

Assembled at the main lobby for the transfer into Sentosa for our team building event - The whole Business Sales was involved.

The event was handled by FOCUS ADVENTURE (www.FOCUSAdventure.com). The session started with going through the objective of the event and then followed by some 'games'. There were lots of laughter's and fun.....

We were splits into 16 groups and my group started off looking for some required information on the GPS. We had to find the spot X to get the 1st task. The 1st task was to try the luge ride. It was really fun! Brought back memories.... I used to play the Luge rides up on Mount Ngongotaha at Rotorua, new Zealand, many times!

It was quite challenging trying to find the required information and then making back to the 'campsite' on time for lunch.

After lunch, some of the colleagues got to try more challenging tasks - climbing up poles and walk on tight ropes, etc.....it looked scary!

Then, we were given some pictures to find the words that were blank out. We had to travel to waterfront station on the monorail and then into the resorts to look for the necessary words. It was kind of interesting as I did not realise that that were so much 'to do and see''!

We ended at the beach where we had to build sand castle. So many funny looking models!

To round up the session, we were shown a video of the event - so many candid moments throughout the day and we had so much laughter's looking through it!

It was a very tiring but fun day! I got to see Sentosa that I never knew before! So much has developed and changed and I did not finish exploring the whole place! Definitely would be going back again.......

HONG KONG AGAIN .......

14 Oct

Soon we will be arriving into Hong Kong international airport (again)...kindly fasten your seat belt, put your seat upright and tray table stow away . We thank you for flying with CX......

Clearing immigration was a breeze but waiting for luggage needed a lot of 'patience'! Took a while before I finally saw my luggage on the belt!

Stephen was already waiting for me at the arriving hall, wondering what happened. Took the airport express to Hong Kong station and then the free shuttle to City Garden Hotel before making our way to South China Hotel in Northpoint.

Left the hotel to go over to Tai Po to visit Stephen's Dad in the hospital. We took the MRT ride to Yau Tong and changed to Wong Tai Sin and then took a cab ride to the hotel. It was my 1st time meeting the parents and I had a good time chatting with his Dad.

We left the hospital and proceeded back to the hotel to have dinner with Derrick. Original wanted to have Chinese but settled for Japanese (Wada Japanese Restaurant) on the 2nd level of the hotel. The restaurant has a stagger charge for meals and on weekday after 9pm, it was at HK$148+

The dinner buffet was surprisingly good, better than expected. We had fair share of sashimi, sushi, etc,..... it was good and better still, Derrick treated us!

The night ended well......

15 Oct

Breakfast at the hotel.... at the Japanese restaurant (make into breakfast venue in the morning). The breakfast was rather pathetic....but as it was included in the room rate, cannot complain....hahahahaha!

After breakfast, we checked out and proceeded over to Tsimshatsui to check in to the other hotel - Bauhinia Hotel at Observatory Court (http://www.thebauhinia.com.hk/). Initially we had some problem locating the hotel but finally found it up the slope from Empire Kowloon Hotel and opposite of Standford Hillview. The hotel's lobby is on the 19th floor. As it was too early to check in, we left our stuff at the hotel and went off for movie at MongKok - The girl with the dragon tattoo, a foreign language movie. It was a challenge sitting through the movie! Hahahaha! There was a choice between 3D and non 3D but patrons either bring their own or buy disposable 3D glasses (HK$6). Back home, the glasses are handled out free!

After the movie, we went for dim sum lunch at 稻香(Mongkok). As usual, I would call that 'few' dishes......the food was good. While having lunch, Omori called. They had arrived and was on the airport express to Kowloon station.

Was to meet him at his hotel - Nathan Hotel around 4pm. Went over and finally met him and his wife....... after 7 years! It was great seeing both of them again! All these years, I have been constantly in touch with them but the last time we met was in Osaka in 2003! We went over to Starbucks , next to the hotel, for a
drink. So much to talk about!

Then, we arranged to meet again for dinner at 7pm. Stephen and I went back to the hotel where we freshened up for the evening. When we got back, we were prepared to find a very small room, similar to Largos or smaller. To our Big Surprise, the room we had was VERY NICE! It had a view of the harbour, on the 22nd floor! Everything looked new and there was even free Internet!

Met with Omori & wife again at the lobby and proceed to the Star Ferry to see the daily laser show. Showed them the esplanade with the avenue of stars as well. The laser show was interesting with the whole esplanade packed with tourists!

Then, we slowly made our way to the restaurant, stopped at a few sights along the way. Dinner was at 稻香, our favourite steamboat venue. We ordered 烧鹅and烧腊 for them to try and followed with steamboat. The restaurant was extremely crowded! Stephen managed to get a table with his connection......great to have such friend around! hahahahaha!

We had a lot of fun chatting and eating and by the time we finished, we have added on a few more kg!

16 Oct

A last minute decision to go to Shenzhen for the day and we stopped over at my favourite American Embassy for breakfast before meeting with with the Omoris. We took the train ride from Jordan station over to MongKok ( Think)... and changed MRT to Kowloon Tong and then to the rail towards Lo Wu (Shenzhen).

It happen to be 重阳节 and many people were heading towards Shenzhen. After some time clearing immigration, we were finally in Shenzhen!

We went to the nearby shopping complex and Mrs Omori managed to get some real bargains on sandal, wig, doll and dress! Thanks to Stephen who bargained like a pro! Stephen also brought them to a stall that was selling jade and they managed to buy real jade at a steal! Mr Omori was very pleased with his buy!

Next in the program was lunch and we went over to Shangri La Hotel for the famous dim sum buffet. We had to wait a while as the restaurant was full. We ordered a spread of many dim sum dishes and it was a feast! There was lots to eat (great to have buffets) and by the time we finished (2 hours later), we were very sleepy!

Back to another building where we went for foot reflex/ massage. Originally we though it would cost RMB100 per person for the reflex/massage but it turned out it only cost RMB20 per hour. Both Japanese seemed to enjoy the massage, while occasionally you could hear Stephen 'groaning in pain'. For me, it was more like massage rather than reflex.

By the time we finished, it was almost evening and we decided to head back to Hong Kong. Stephen left half way to visit his father in the hospital while we proceeded to MongKok where we went for a walk at the Ladies' Street. They managed to do some shopping on their own as I had to leave them for my own appointment.

Met up with Wallace & Frankie at The Kumatei Japanese Restaurant over at Central. This is one of my favourite restaurants. As usual, we will order lots of food and eat till we could barely move! It was great catching up with both of them.

Caught up with Mr Omori again for a drink at MacDonald's before heading back to hotel to rest. Our friendship goes back to 1982/83 and all these years we have kept in touch! I have stayed with the family many times in Osaka and they have already become a part of my family.

Slept in this morning and only checked out after 11am. Went to look for my favourite Wanton noodle shop for lunch. Did not really enjoy the meal....soup was bland, wantons were bland and noodle was tasteless! utterly disappointment! Used to be very good!

Took a cab ride to Kowloon station and checked in the luggage before proceeding to Starbucks for a drink. Soon, had to go to the airport to catch the flight back to Singapore..........

The trip has been very good....Not only I managed to meet up with my Japanese friends, I also got to meet Stephen's parents. being able to be there for him also mean a lot for me.

STORY

Mork and Mindy are a couple who met each other by chance and fell in love. They would chat, sms and web came whenever possible. Both of us are very much in love with each other.

Recently , Mindy had to go overseas to attend a course. There would still be sms and web cam initially. Then, with entertainment and stuff, Mindy returns back late. Mork, on the other hand, would patiently wait for Mindy to return. Though Mindy would text Mork to inform him that she would be late, Mork would still wait up for her, no matter how tired he is. It was not about the advance notice given by Mindy. Without seeing her, Mork could not rest well.

Mork loves Mindy very much and decided not to add pressure to her. So, he sent her a message to inform her that he would not trouble her further during her course.

The last few days, Mork would always check his mobile to see there was any message from Mindy. Though there was no message, Mork would restrain himself from sending any text to Mindy. He does not want to add any burden to her.

Mork loves Mindy and the last few days has been terrible for him. He misses Mindy very much. He thinks of her all day long ........... he feels miserable.....but, he does not want to be a nuisance to her. He just wants her to finish her course , and come back to him again.

Halal茶餐厅

Went to City Square Mall for dinner tonight with Jeff and Raymond. Jeff recommended the Italian restaurant on B2. The restaurant has a reasonable spread of food and you could have unlimited drink (in a glass).

We had chicken wings, escargots, pizza, seafood chowder and pork & sausage steak! It was a good meal! Better still, it was free! Raymond paid! Why, he was late!

Decided to got to the Street Cafe (街头茶餐厅)for desserts. Realised that the cafe did not have cake, went over to BreadTalk (面包讲话)to get a cake. While waiting for Derrick to join us, the manager of the cafe told us that we could not bring in any food that has pork, lard, or wine as the cafe is going to be Halal certified. Halal茶餐厅????!!!!! Interesting!

Anyway, it was just a ''normal'' cake and we got to sing Jeff 'Happy Birthday'.... the evening ended well... the company was fun!

Really Refreshing!

Many years back, I stumbled upon this delicious drink (the one in the centre) and I tried finding it in Singapore but in vain. It was really refreshing!
All the trips to Hong Kong, I would always stop at supermarkets or 711s to get a bottle or two back to the hotel.
The latest trip, I literally have about 3 - 4 bottles of it everyday! The weather was extreme and the drink was a refreshing relief!
柑桔 and 柚子 are the best........ try them, if you have the opportunity!

HONG KONG Birthday Celebration

12 Aug

Diana's on MC .... oh dear! Got to get someone else to cover my duties...

12noon and I should be leaving but still in office...... need to go over to Tiong Bahru to get some stuff before going back to change, grab my luggage and off to the airport!

The flight was rather packed, on a Thursday afternoon! Many people travelling! At the HKG airport, it was very crowded! The immigration queue was extremely long! Have no fear, I have the HKFVC! I do not have to queue! Fantastic!

The luggage was out quickly and soon I cleared custom and into the arrival hall. I was looking out while coming out as I had a feeling that Stephen would be at the airport...he was! He called me earlier just when I got off the plane and though he said that he would wait at the hotel, I had a feeling he was actually at the airport instead. I was right!

After dropping off the luggage at Largos, we went over to 富临 to meet up with Derrick for dinner - steamboat. Just a quick dinner before we headed back to the hotel...... I was just too tired.......

Could not sleep and decided to go out for a walk..in the middle of the night...and ended up with a burger and hot chocolate from Mac's!

13 Aug

This morning program was to go to Stanley for shopping....my favourite polo shirt shop. Went over to Exchange Square Bus Terminal at Central to catch bus 260 to Stanley.

The temperature was about 36 degrees! Managed to buy a few polo shirt before making our way back to Wan Chai for lunch with Louisa at 富临. We had tim sum lunch at which was packed during lunch hours! After lunch, we thought of going to the food fair at the convention centre but decided to skip that. Went to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry over to Kowloon star ferry terminal. Went for some window shopping at the Harbour City and sipped gourmet coffee at City Super before back to hotel to rest (escape from the hot weather!)

Went to Wally for a drink (and met some friends) before going over to Central for dinner - Japanese Buffet Dinner! Met up with Herman and Stanley at the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. This restaurant has 2 sittings and we took the one at 8:30pm.The place was small but packed. Derrick came over after work. We had lots to eat and plenty to chat!

14 Aug

Was to meet up with Frankie and Wallace for lunch at 德兴...... Was invited to go Ocean Park with Herman & Stanley but declined due to prior appointment. Great to catch up with F&W and great lunch too! After lunch, Frankie invited us to join them for karaoke and we gladly accepted (beats going anywhere outside!). Frankie , Wallace & Stephen sung very well throughout and I managed to catch up on my beauty sleep as well! Hahahahaha.

Though I did not sing,it was fun watching them having a great time! After karaoke, they brought me to a wanton noodle shop to try the noodle. the theory about the 猫山王 durian applies..... it was not as good as 龙记, though。

Went back to the hotel to freshen up before meeting up with Eddy, Simon, and the couple for hotpot dinner at HIPOT......yes, steamboat again! This time, it's individual pot with your own stock base. It was kind of interesting as you get to try each other's pot! We had lots to eat and by the time most of us were up to our throat, Stephen was still eating away! Great appetite! It was really fun! The gang was so kind to present me with a birthday cake....so touched.......

After dinner, I had to go over to MongKok for my next appointment....really busy!

15 Aug

Went for a movie this morning over at Harbour City. When we did online reservation, the cinema was rather full. However, when the show started, we were the only 2! By the time it finished , there were only 5 patrons! Hmm.....7th month...did I miss seeing the crowd.......?????????

Went over to Hong Kong to try and buy red packets (with surname) for Joanne. Unfortunately, the shop closed on Sunday. Went over to a famous noodle and porridge shop for lunch. The wanton noodle was quite good, similar to 龙记. After lunch, we went over to Derrick's shop and then to high tea (cake n coffee/tea) nearby.

Back to hotel to rest before going over to for dinner at 稻香. After some discussion, we decided to have steamboat with some side dishes! Frankie & Wallace, Raymond & Michael and also Ming were all there. We had a great time catching up or rather they had a great time chatting about opera and movies!

Went for a stroll along the esplanade before ending up eating ice cream at Haagen Dazs

16 Aug

It's my Birthday today! Got up, checked out, went over to Central to get the red packets and then checked in the luggage at Central station. Went over to Crystal Jade for lunch, bought some locals snacks before taking the Airport Express Train to the airport.

Got back around 7:30pm and had to rush back, took a shower before meeting up with the gang for dinner at Blk 169. Gerald, Jay, Derrick, Raymond, Wong & Tony , Albert and Small Ben came to buy me dinner. Small Ben even "cook'' bird nest drink for me! So kind of him.....

By the time we finished, I was really tired......

The trip has been a tiring one.. I guess I was already tired out before flying off to HKG. With the hot weather, I did not spend much time moving around. I just wanted to spend the time with that someone special....... and I did...that's the most important.

Korean BBQ

Met up with Raymond for dinner. Decided to have Korean at Centrepoint - Crystal Jade Korean BBQ Restaurant. Have been here a few times ......
www.crystaljade.com/CrystalJadeKoreanChickenBBQ.htm

The buffet spread was rather limited..... you get a small spread of appetisers first and a bowl of ginseng chicken soup. Then, you can order the meat, seafood, rice, soup, vege, etc. As this is ala carte buffet, the staff would bring the food to the table. The seafood pancake was delicious! The 秋刀鱼was also good! The meats were average and limited in variety, and the fried rice and special rice - can skip!

The theory about once you have tasted 猫山王durians, you really would not want to try the rest....because you have already tasted the best, is a proven theory!

Having tasted the korean BBQ at Katong Village, the dinner tonight certainly could not match! Though the restaurant at Katong Village is very simple in deco, the food speaks for itself!

Even before we finished, we decided that we would not come again! We are definitely going to Katong Village again, soon!

This dinner is to celebrate Raymond's birthday in advance as he would be flying off for holiday tomorrow! Safe n enjoyable trip! Dont forget our souvenirs!

A Tiring Saturday

Coming 11am and I was still on my way to the custom. Alan was also on his way to the custom and managed to get a lift from him. Raymond, for once, was early....afraid to be the one having to pay for meals...hahahahaha!

Though the custom was cleared, the crowd waiting for bus was crazy! Simply too crowded! After squeezing through, we finally managed to get on board. Cleared the first hurdle but the jam was just as bad.

Finally got into JB and Alan needed to have something to eat...for breakfast. Though it was noon, we went over to OLD TOWN for 'breakfast'. Alan ordered Nasi Lemak, bread and 2 glasses of iced coffee. Yes, that's his breakfast! Raymond had tom yam noddle soup which I had my favorite half boiled eggs.

After breakfast at City Square, we took a cab ride over to our favourite Bak Kut Teh's place. Alan reminded me not to order too much......I ordered the usual amount and guess what? We finished everything!

At the massage place, Alan was too full that he was too sleepy to stay awake. I somehow felt very tired but could not sleep. Though the foot reflex was good, I felt very tired....... Raymond had a different masseur and he said it was "painful".

Last stop was back at City Square where we had some drinks & desserts before they went to the factory outlet to buy some stuff.

We got back early...somehow I felt very tired.......just very tired...

Great To See You Again

Kia Ora!

Many years ago, maybe about 13/14 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with with John Dam from New Zealand. We had a very good working relationship moving groups to New Zealand.

Though I had left the travel ('trouble') industry for quite a number of years, we have continued to keep in touch.

Yesterday, John flew in from Bangkok after business trip to Vietnam and Bangkok, on the way back to Auckland.

Met up with Sheryn and Doreen as well. Went for dinner at the food court next to the former Allson Hotel and desserts at Fruit Paradise.

It was really great catching up with him!

Great Evening Out

Started off as a suggestion to meet up for dinner during one of the meet-up at Mac's. Decided to meet up on Thursday (15 July) at Jang Shou Korean BBQ at Katong Village. Was supposed to meet up with Derrick at Suntec but learned that Wong was at Chinatown and could give me a lift. Ended up picking me up from office, picking up Raymond near his office and Derick from Suntec before heading off to the restaurant.

Gerald and Jay were already at the restaurant. Other than Derrick, Raymond and myself,. the rest was new to the restaurant. Soon, the BBQ started with lots of meats on one 'pit' while ours was mainly vege! We had potatoes, mushroom and garlic!

This restaurant serves a general spread of meats in various marinates. The honey pork and the pork marinates with olive oil were delicious. The beef strips in special marinates were simply yummy! By the time we finished, we must have slaughtered few pigs, and maybe half a cow! hahahahaha!

Next, we moved on to the ice cream place with delicious waffles. The shop was near to the Katong steamboat and we had lavender, rum n raisin, mango, kaya toast, wild strawberries, and sea salt vanilla, etc... we could still eat after the heavy BBQ dinner!

The night ended well, good meal and great company!

Tiring but Enjoyable Saturday

Another Saturday out to JB.

Usually we would meet around 11am at Kranj MRT and I must say that the few recent trips, there's lot of people travelling into JB. Long queue (really long) waiting for Bus 170. Even for the yellow bus, there was a queue.

After clearing the Singapore immigration, the bus queue (to JB) was amazing long. We used to wait a short while but nowadays, the queue was like 3 times the usual and we have to wait much longer to get on to the bus, simply because the frequency was bad. I remember once we waited for 15 mins and still no bus!

The weekly congestion into JB started on the bridge and then slowly onto the F1 track and finally into the JB immigration/custom. Immigration was fast as there were not many people (surprisingly).

First stop was lunch and as usual, 顺发肉骨茶was the choice. Managed to get table and soon the food was on the table. This time, we told ourselves to take our time to eat and enjoy the food. Every time the food came, we gobbled it down in no time! We talked about the lunch and we reckoned that this is the best we had so far (in JB)!

Massage was next and we managed to have the masseurs that we wanted. Me having foot and Raymond having body. By the time we finished, it started to pour. Went over to Sakura for dessert n drink while waiting for the rain to subside.

One more stop at Leisure mall before dinner. Went into Giant but did not manage to find the stuff I wanted.

Decided to have dinner at that Modern Revelation Restaurant (Jap rest), recommended by Derrick. The restaurant serves Ala - carte and set meals. We ordered steamboat with Tom Yam and chicken bone stocks. The meal was average and the ala-carte order was not cheap. We had 7 slices of luncheon meat for M$7! The drink (fruit tea) was rather delicious, though. Verdict - not going back again! Hahahaha!

Back to City Square to buy bread/bun at Lavender before heading back to Singapore. The coming back traffic was very smooth except had to wait for Raymond to clear immigration.

Was to meet up with Derrick for dinner (again!) at Chinatown. By the way we got there (almost 9pm), Wong and Tony were there too! Couple of nights ago, Gerald and I had dinner with Derrick and Raymond at Chinatown. We decided to have dessert at Mac and Derrick mentioned that he recently bumped into Wong and Tony often. Having said that, we actually met them at Mac!

We went over to 兰州拉面 shop in Chinatown and ordered the 招牌炸酱拉面 and some other dishes. The portions were not huge but the food was delicious. Then, we went over to the dessert stall along the food street for cold desserts before calling it a night.

By the night I got back, it was coming 11pm.... a tiring day..... but enjoyable!

Hong Kong 02 - 04 July (Part 2)

03 July

A relax day ...... started with Dim Sum breakfast near Prudential Hotel - 金御海鲜酒家. I ordered 鲜虾烧卖皇,金御鲜虾饺, 香芋蒸肉排, 瑶柱蒸萝卜糕 and 蜜汁叉烧肠. The dishes were delicious! Yum, yum!

Then we went for a stroll along Nathan road, and ended at a supermarket! We walked a lot that morning....went over to the SOGO at Tsimshatsui and then to Star Ferry Terminal and wanted to catch a movie but timing was not good. We decided to have a quick bite before heading back to the hotel. Simply too hot to be walking along the street!

We stopped at Toast Box and ordered 2 sets that came with 2 half boiled eggs. The eggs looked good but not hot enough and instead of dark/light soy sauce, they served thick sauce instead. Did not go well with the eggs....

Managed to buy my high blood tablets at a medical shops (after been to a few the day before). Cheaper to buy in HKG than back home!

Rested in the hotel while Stephen caught up with his preparation for his exam in Aug. Then, Stephen went for a birthday dinner while I went to walk the night markets at Mong Kok and Jordan. It was a pleasant walk from Mong Kok down to Tsimshatsui and I ended up at a dessert shop for dessert! Also stopped at a pub for a drink before catching up with Stephen. We went over to a Japanese restaurant for a quick bite of sushi and ramen before heading back to hotel.

04 July

Checked out of the hotel and went for dim sum again at the same restaurant before heading out to Kowloon station to check in my luggage. Took the airport express and within 25 mins, arrived at the airport. Immigration clearance was very fast for me because I HAVE THE HKG FREQUENT VISITOR CARD! This card is amazing! I could see a long queue of passengers waiting to clear the immigration but I did not have to join the queue! I cleared through very fast!

The flight was rather comfortable with good movies on board...better than the flight I took to Hong Kong!

The trip was pretty short and I really did not do much. The weather was a killer! The purpose of the trip was to spend time with him....be there for him.....

I thank God for making all these possible.

Hong Kong 02 - 04 Jul (Part 1)

02 Jul

Ladies & gentlemen, soon we will arrive at HK International Airport. Kindly return to your allocated seats, have your seat upright, seat belt fastened and your tray table stowed away.

As usual, there were lots of passengers and the immigration looked packed! This time, I am not worried. I walked up to the officer, he scanned my card and I went straight to the immigration for clearance! I was holding the HKG Frequent Visitor Card! There was a counter for the Card holder! So much easier and less hassle!

Stephen was already waiting for me at the arrival hall. Went to top up the octopus card and then proceeded to town. The train to town and the shuttle bus to hotel.

After checking in, went over to my favourite shop for a bite - 龙记招牌云吞面。Usually I would go to the shop at TsimshaTsui but had it near Jordan MTR instead. The 干捞 noodle was great and the 云吞were huge! Then, bought some toiletries before back to the hotel to rest. The weather in HKG was very hot, hotter than Singapore!

In the evening, went over to Mong kok to buy movie ticket for late movie at 11:10pm. The areas was very crowded with people! We went over to The Olympian City to meet up with the others for dinner. The public toilet was interesting. The flushing was by sensor. Place your hand slight above the button and it will flush on its own! Interesting!

Dinner was at The Spaghetti House. The food was just average but they seemed to enjoy eating at this restaurant. We had black pepper wings (tasted below average), pizza, different types of spaghetti and salad! I found out that one did not like chicken, another one cannot take cheese and one did not like salad dressings and the last one, vegetarian.

As it was WORLD CUP season, the mall was packed with people waiting to watch the soccer. Some of malls open for customers to watch. I found out some cinemas also converted to screen soccer matches! Its very big event here, in HKG!

The cinema was in a small screen on the 10th floor! Getting up and down was a hassle. But,we had no choice... The movie - IpMan The Legend was not too bad!

Stopped at the American Embassy (Mac's) before heading back to hotel for the night.

Had to get used of not having plastic bag provided at shops and 7-11. Over in HKG, you either bring your own bag or pay for it. Most people who carry......... something that is so diffierent back home.

It 's 9am in the morning and I have been here since 8!

Yes, I am flying off! Hooray!

Where? For some of you.....the answer is obvious! For the other, pls wait for my updates! Hahahahaha!

An Evening Out

30 Jun

Met up with Derrick, Raymond & small Ben at Chinatown Point and could not decide where to go for dinner! Since Derrick was driving, we decided to go somewhere out of town. Between steamboat and Nasi Lemak, the option was steamboat..but we ended up with Korean BBQ!

Don't have to ask Raymond what he prefers.....anything will do!

Jang Shou Korean BBQ at Katong Village. The car parking system was a pain. We had to wait quite a while before we could get in and when we got in, there were plenty of empty lots!

The BBQ restaurant was rather empty when we got there before 8pm....it was still rather empty when we left! Hahahahaha! Very simple setup.....buffet style.......with some cooked food. The meat spread was rather good ..lots of variety.

We read reviews that the food was not bad but service was terrible. I have to say that the service was rather good that night! Well, there were more staff than customers! Perhaps, on weekday night, you get better service.

Soon, we were tucking in to the spread..... bbqing away! These people could really eat! We got to try the different marinates and also the BBQ potatoes slices that seemed to be Derrick's favourite!

It was quite a good meal and everyone enjoyed the food!

Then, it' s dessert time! We went to a new ice cream outlet (recommended by Derrick) for its ice cream and waffles. The ice cream flavours were average but the waffles were delicious! We had passion fruit which was good; peach that tasted very artificial and lavender that tasted like eating flowers!

It was a great evening, as usual, with this group of fun loving friends!

Enjoyable Saturday

10:30am at the Singapore custom and they were all late! Raymond, as usual, was running late but seldom heard of Alan being late......he finally arrived, upset with the taxi driver taking a longer route!

Decided to get over to JB first as the traffic was rather bad. Told Raymond we would meet him over at Old Town. We did not wait long...

First stop was to Citibank for Alan to make some transactions..the taxi went round and round the compound....waiting for Alan.....

we were supposed to meet up with Ho at Pelangi Plaza and he came and drove us to our lunch venue. Have been talking about this lunch venue but Alan did not have the address but he remembered how to get there. The venue was at Johore Jaya (not far from Jusco Tebrau) and
the shop name was RESTORAN YOU KEE XO ENTEPRISE -- www.youkeexo.com.my
We order the combination plate (char siew, roast pork, roast duck , and the roast pig (skin)), soup, steamed fish & vege, and tofu. It was a good meal! The drinks were great too! The meal came up to about M$150+ for 4 people! Thanks, Raymond!
After a heavy meal, we went over to Tebrau Mall for some window shopping. Always enjoy walking in this mall...... big supermarket, big bookshop, and many eateries!
On the way to our favourite massage place, we sidetracked and stopped at a dessert place. The place was crowded with customers, on a hot afternoon. The ice kacang had chocolate sauce all over it! While having dessert, I found the new premises of the tea guy! He told me that he would move and I realised that the new place was just opposite the dessert stall!
Finally, its our massage time.... as usual....... I fell asleep, while in pain..........hahahahhaha!
By the time we were done it was already 7pm! Had to go over to get some comics (for Raymond)before we stopped over at Pelangi Plaza for dinner at Season's. The food was average ... I would have preferred eating at Taman Gardens, though. Anyway, Alan treated dinner...so, cannot complain! Hahahaha!

Usually, we would be back over to SG in the early evening, but by the way we were going back, it was after 9pm! The traffic was very smooth (many people must be staying home to watch World Cup!). By the way, I got home, it was almost 11pm.
I am sure both Alan and Raymond have had a good time, amidst all the sarcasm & insults !

Not A Fulfilling Evening

It has been a long time since I last visit Music Dreamer Cafe with Raymond.

Decided to have dinner at Pu Tien after looking through the set menu. The restaurant was

supposed to be famous but the set menu was a disappointment. Don't believe what you see on the advertisement!

The bamboo prawns were not fresh; the fried fish equally could not make it (我接受不到啰)and the famous bee hoon (the main dish) was a small portion, not even enough for me! The only consolation was the tofu...tasted like tofu!

As the meal was not filling, we decided to try the famous Jia Xiang Sawarak Kuching Kolo Mee next door. We ordered the 金牌noodle with 3 slices of abalone and the 招牌 fish soup. The noodle was delicious but the fish soup was terrible! The fish slices were not fresh, the prawns were overcooked (the soup was not even boiling) and the soup tasted bad! Totally CMI! The manager actually changed the fish slices and soup for me and it was still bad! I am definitely not ordering this dish again!

Finally we proceeded to the ming ge for the evening. The guitarist and the female singer were not there! What a let down!

The place had a new menu and Raymond decided to order waffle (he could still eat!) The lady asked if he wanted ice cream or butter /honey on his waffle and also the flavour. Then , she came back to inform that the ice cream waffles would only start the following month! When the butter/honey waffle came, Raymond thought the chunk of stuff was ice cream but I told him it was butter, a chunk of solid cold butter! The waffles was cold too! I managed to get it heated up but Raymond gave up eating it!

We did have a good time at ming ge. The male singer managed to entertain the night away! All was not lost!
