Last Day of 2009

Year 2009 has been an eventful year!Looking back, I have had quite an exciting year!

Since I got back to SingTel last year in July, the journey has been great! Though we went into recession and many people were out of job, the Company has been good to us. I am still doing pretty well with my job and so far, I am still hitting target!

Met quite a few people this year, both locally and overseas! Some of the friends have become very closed friends and I want to thank them for the wonderful memories! There is 1 who I spent a lot of time with and I am grateful to him!

The Thais and the Taiwanese moved into new apartments recently and I am looking forward to visit them! Free accommodation! Hooray! Win got his scholarship to Denmark! Congrats! Poor Daddy!

The 2 god brothers in KL have moved out separately and are doing ok on their own. Glad to know that! Was worried for them...not my worries are now unfounded!

I am thankful to my family and friends for their support and encouragement...... I have some plans for 2010.... and may proceed with those plans......

Last Week of the Year

Colleagues on leave and MC...so much to do, so few people!

Caught up with Cheryl for dinner. Been a long while since we last met! Always fun to catch up with old friend!

Ming Ge again on Tuesday but the 'rich guy' singer was not there! The stand-in singer was quite good, in fact....better! Surprised to see the guitarist on the keyboard! He is so talented! Refreshing to see changes! He even surprised us with a song! 1st time to hear him sing! This time round, we had Small Ben and Andrew as well! We even bought cookies for the singers!

Mum got admitted to the hospital this afternoon. Supposed to be admitted next week but had to bring forward. Had to make some last minutes arrangement and to sort out the maid as well. Thank goodness, my brothers helped out.

2009 has been an eventful year! Met a lot of new friends....and some became very close friends! Managed to meet up with the overseas families....both in overseas and in Singapore!

Work has been great and so far...so good! Love life ...well........

Christmas Period

23 Dec

Met up with Alan after work. He was trying to shop for a jacket for his trip. $200! Rich man! Went to the money exchange at Chinatown....popular place for many. After that, went to the usual steamed fish head restaurant for dinner. Managed to make Alan pay for dinner! Yes!

24 Dec

Half Day at work and at 1pm, hooray! No more calls coming in!

Went to meet up with Small Ben for lunch and movie at Ang Mo Kio. The queue was terrible! Gave up and ended up just dinner and some last minute shopping.

Met up with Albert, Raymond and Andrew for dinner at Katong,. It was at the Korea BBQ restaurant. The buffet served 3 different types of pork, 1 type of chicken, and lots of side dishes! The cuts were big, just limited in variety. Dinner was great and the company was fun!

Went over to Wong's new condo. Still not ready but they have moved in. The unit was at a good location...very cosy ambiance.

Manged to get to the pub before the countdown and met quite a few old friends.

25 Dec

Met up with Raymond for lunch as I need to go to TBP to do some shopping. Jeff came over to help me install my PC's o/s. Took a while to get it done and then we had to go over to Gerald's place for dinner. We had food & wine.... and TV program entertainment!

Finally decided to go K after dinner and managed to get a room at AMK. The group had fun singing, screaming till 2+ in the morning! Poor me~~~~~

26 Dec

Supposed to prepared desserts for family dinner....too lazy! Hahahaha! Went to get presents for the family (after Christmas?) and also fruits for the dinner. It rained just when I was about to go home and I had to catch a bus from Anchorpoint to Red hill mrt, took the mrt to Commonwealth and then a bus back to Stirling road...without getting wet!

Family dinner at Steve's place. Where's the Christmas tree? Yet to put it up! As usual, lots of food! We had braised pork with bun, curry chicken, crab, ham, vege, salad, bee hoon, chicken wing, etc.....

Best time of the night was giving out and receiving presents! We also had our gift exchange! It was really fun! I got a box of expensive looking chocolate! Also celebrated mum' s birthday!

Caught up with Winson from Penang at Woodlands. I was so forgetful that I left my wallet at Mac's. The manager called me and returned the wallet! So grateful! Ray and Andrew came to join us after their marathon of movies!

Few more days to go........for year 2009!

Paying Respect

Dad passed away on 25 Jan 2001. Today, the family went to pay our respect at Choa Chu Kang Christian Cemetery.

Though it has been 9 years already, we would still diligently go and pay our respect a few time a year.

Dad was a wonderful father. He did not want anything for himself. His family was his everything.

He lives in our hearts, always!

Smiley - Piggy Bank

This is my Piggy Bank... I have this for the last 4 - 5 years!
Every year around Christmas, my niece will help me to 'unload' the coins that are inside the Smiley. Whatever the amount would become the value of the Christmas presents! When I 1st started, I only had S$100+. Now, with so many 'kids' (including my best friend's children), I have to save more....... at least S$200+
Tonight, I am happy to say that I broke my last year's record! Hahahahaha!
My sympathy goes to the manager at Popular... he would have to count my coins again!

Going Away

How I wish! Actually planned to go away but due to some commitments, I had to shelve my plans.

Many friends going away.... Gerald is away in KL. Invited me to join him but I could not. Should be back tomorrow..

Spoke to Albert today. He would be travelling to Taiwan coming Wednesday and back in the new year! Alan would be leaving on Thursday ( I think) and also back next year!

Had dinner with Derrick last Wednesday. He managed to sort out the trip finally only days before the trip! Leaving tomorrow night for Korea...... he asked me what we would have for dinner (last Wednesday) and I said "Let's have Korean!" Bet he would be having lots of that!

Went to JB today with Jeff and Raymond. There was a jam at Malaysia custom (2nd link) but once we crossed that , the road was rather smooth. Jeff went to buy new badminton racket and he got a very good deal for it! We went to our favourite Bak Kut Teh shop and, as usual, it was delicious ! Massage was next and it was also good! Went to Leisuremall's Giant to buy some grocery and Raymond got his stack of comics!

Managed to convince to have early dinner before going back and we went to Taman Gardens for seafood. We wanted our favourite Dragon Fruit drink but it was not available. We tried passionfriut and it was quite good! We had a sumptuous meal of stingray, fish, clam, veg & prawn!

Final stop at Lavender Bakery before coming back to Singapore!

One more person travelling.....Nickolas. Leaving tomorrow for Taiwan, as well!

My dear friends, a safe n enjoyable trip to all of you!

December

Yesterday, I took out my Christmas tree and put it up. Time flies! This Christmas tree was last put up in December last year and now it's December again!

With Christmas, it would be New Year and 2010 is just around the corner! What have I done this year? When I look back, are there anything worth remembering? The resolutions set last year, have they been fulfilled?

With Christmas, it's that time of the year when I'll burn a big hole in my pockets! Christmas presents for family, colleagues and friends! Also, got to get my niece to open up my piggy bank to count the 'saving'!

I am not really ready for this Christmas.....Are you?

Daddy's Trip

Daddy is back again!

Win has gone to Taiwan for seminar and Daddy has decided to visit Singapore!

Daddy arrived on Thursday afternoon, staying at Peninsula/Excelsior Hotel. Met up with Daddy for dinner at the famous Heng Wah restaurant next to Jalan Besar Plaza. Derrick, Andrew, Raymond and Small Ben joined in for dinner. The food was not too bad..followed by desserts neat Bugis.

Met up with Daddy and Kelvin at the hotel and then took MRT to Kranji station. Took the Causeway link bus into JB. Rather crowded and the traffic was quite bad. Finally cleared the JB custom and met up with Jason, James n Gilbert who took us to a new place for lunch. The meal was ok but I felt it was rather expensive. Foot reflex at my usual joint.....always enjoyed the session...

Daddy decided to have the evening to himself and I went to Vivocity to have dinner with Small Ben. We have the Chinese steamboat which was very popular. It was ok for me... the best part was....I paid for 1 adult and 1 student! Hahahaha! We went to Chinatown for 2 rounds of desserts before heading home!

This morning went to catch STORM WARRIORS 2....it was so so....did some shopping at OG Chinatown......

Dinner with Chartchai and Gerald at the Zhi Cha shop at Beatty road. Always enjoy the food there. Visited the new City Square Mall. Interesting! Small Ben came to join us for a drink.

Daddy flies back tomorrow...

Another Trip to JB...

5 Dec

Meeting up with Jeff and Raymond at Eunos MRT....for our regular trip to JB. Jeff's friend (forgot his name) was to join us and we went to fetch him, stopping over at King's trying to buy the Kiwifruit Ice Cream that Jeff has been telling us. Still, 2nd attempt at the Factory with no luck! Long queue!

Traffic at Woodlands is always bad and we went via 2nd Link. The traffic was smooth and we got in quickly. 1st stop was to the car service centre. While the car was being serviced , we went to get some service as well - lunch! Had claypot rice, and some dishes. Not bad!

Then, went over to Leisuremall for some shopping. Raymond bought some comic books (big kid!) and we bought some stuff at Giant.

Massage on next on the list and we went to our regular joint. Jeff and I had foot reflex while the rest had body massage. The foot reflex was great!

Wanted to go to Jusco at Permas Jaya but due to missing the turn and with no U-Turn sign for a long stretch, we ended up at Danga Bay Mall....small.....boring

Wanted to had seafood for dinner but Jeff had to go back for Majong! Majong more important than having good food with friends! Hahahahha!

Went tback to SG and alighted at Woodlands MRT. Went to Causeway Point for dinner with Raymond and then followed by desserts at MacDonald's. Have a great time chatting with him..

The day ended well.

SAFE!

5 Dec :
Had to go back to office to listen to a recording between customer and me. Customer accused me of commiting to an application which I remembered I did not.

Thank goodness all conversations were recorded!

Now, I could tell customer that I have the recording to prove I did not commit!

Customer is always right! When customer is wrong, he is WRONG! Hahahahaha!

BBQ at Labrador Park

It was a long weekend...... 27 - 29 Nov. Gerald has organised for a BBQ on 28 Nov. Raymond managed to book a pit at Labrador Park. I volunteered to marinate pork, my specialty.

After some logistics arrangement, Gerald come to pick me up at 3:30pm and then we went to Queenstown MRT to pick up Raymond and Small Ben. There were lots of stuff in the car. After arriving at the car park, we found that the pit was quite far..the last pit.

When we were about to set up the place, it started to drizzle. We had to quickly keep most of the stuff and took shelter. The rain came and soon went away. Gerald has gone to fetch Ivan and Willy and we had extra help to quickly set up the BBQ

After some time, we managed to get the fire going and started to cook the raw meat. We had pork, otah, check wings, sausages, prawns, fish, corn, sweet potatoes and even Marshmallow and grapes for dessert! There's a lot of food....for 11 people!

Jeff, Sunny, Kelvin, Alan, Thomas and Andrew came to join in the BBQ. We had lots of fun chatting and BBQing the food! The food was great and the Company was excellent!

Back To Before.......

Would it be possible to go back to the life before....before you have had something or someone, etc.....

Few months ago, my aircon broke down. I tried sleeping with the fan on....but it was just impossible to sleep! I ended up staying 'somewhere' for a few nights! Before we had aircon, we only had fan.... and we slept through many years. Now, no air con.....its a torture! How to live without aircon????!!!!!!!

I have friends who are still living with only fan and they managed.......I don't think I could go back to those days with fan.......

The last few months, I had the company of a good friend..... we did many things together....lots of meals, shopping and movies... Recently, that friend was no long 'available'.... After spending a lot of time together, I really miss it. Places that I went brought back memories of the time spent... at those places.

I thought... I have a life before I spent time with that special friend...now that special friend is no long 'free', I should be able to go back to that life I had before. I could.......but it was not easy.....

Life goes on as it always will. My life goes on as usual..... memories stay for a long time......

I know often I have been taken for granted but I guessed I asked for it.

I should listen to good advice.....

BUSY OCTOBER

Oct has indeed been a busy month for me.

Bobby arrived at the beginning of Oct for training. Derrick, Raymond and I met up with him for dinner. Most the time during his trip was busy with work but we met up again for dinner before his went back to Tokyo.

Jeff came and talked about going in to JB and I agreed. Raymond came along. We had to take the 2nd Link as it was jam packed at Woodlands. Went behind Sutera Mall for body massage. Well, it was more of a 'torture'! Drove to Tampoi for lunch - the usual place famous for boiled fish. The fish was delicious! We manged to do some shopping before we rushed back to Singapore and met up with Alan for dinner.

Wallace and Frankie came in the middle of the month with 2 other friends. Busy few days! Met up with them on Friday for dinner and drinks; Saturday started with morning walk at the Southern Ridges and then lunch at Vicocity. Went to Katong to have Katong Laksa and also the Teochew Soon Kueh. Then its back to Chinatown and let them loose for a coupe of hours
before meeting them and bringing them to Joo Chiat area for pepper crabs! After dinner, we went back to the hotel (Fullerton) and had a wonderful time chatting and talking about each other's experience!
Sunday was a shopping day at Orchard and then followed with dinner at Katong ....steamboat! since it was the last night,w e decided to go back to the hotel for another chit-chat session. It was really fun and we had Derrick and Raymond with us!

The week after, Daddy and Win arrived. This time they stayed at Ibis Singapore (Bugis). With them, its always makan and more makan. We had dinner on their arrival on Friday with Derrick. Saturday was lunch at Orchard and then let loose at Chinatown. Dinner was at with many people....a restaurant near Kembangan MRT. Gerald, Wong, Tony, Yas, Derrick, Raymond, Joseph, me and the Thais!
After dinner, we went to the Cheesecake Cafe and had cheesecake!

A new friend from Russia, ALexey, stop over in Singapore on his way to Bali. Took the morning off to catch up breakfast with him and showed him around Chinatown and Raffles Place vicinity. It was really hot walking around in business attire! At least, he was grateful that I took time off to show him around!

Another friend, from China, called in last weekend. Had dinner at Chinatown and managed to show him Clarke Quay and Boat Quay. The night was made interesting as it was Halloween Night! Many people came in costumes and make-ups!

Every weekend I had friend(s) from overseas and I have to admit that I ain't as young and energetic as I used to me. I have to thank Raymond who was always there to help me take care of them. At least, I am sure he had a great time with them!

Ming'sTrip to KL & SG

After some last minute flight and hotel reservations, the trip to KL seemed to be confirmed. The arrangement was to meet Ming at the airport when he arrived and proceed to check in for our flight to KL.

27th Aug.
Went to the airport to meet Ming who arrived on SQ flight from Hong Kong. Together, we proceeded to Air Asia counter to check in for our flight to KL. 50 mins' flight and we arrived about 5:15pm into KL. The LCCT has certainly expanded in size since the last time I arrived at the terminal. With the current influx of travellers travelling on budget carriers, business is blooming for Air Asia! Took a cab ride to town which took about 1 hour and cost only M$74! I actually expected the cab fare to be higher!
Arrived at Capitol Hotel - my favourite hotel! Went for dinner with Ben at Jalan Imbi area...had Hokkien noddle, yuen yang, fried beef and vege. The meal was delicious!
Back to the hotel and Nelson came by for a chat.

28th Aug
Did not sleep well ...in fact, hardly slept! Went out for a walk around 1am..... still a lot of people at Bukit Bintang! Went back to hotel and watched video on the MP4 given by Ming. Suddenly heard a loud noise and after checking the room, found leakage from the floor above. Managed to change room, at 4am in the morning! Ming was still half asleep when we moved! Hahahahaha!
Went to McDonald's at 5am for early breakfast - so very early!
Took Ming to the nearby shop for prata. He was surprised to see prata with curry...such a heavy meal for breakfast, he reckoned! We only had 1 prata each!
Showed Ming Starhill gallery (he enjoyed the decors of the various restaurants) and Pavilion (where he bought some charcoal bread, jelly and even jams!)
Back to the hotel where we met up with SP for lunch. Went to The Federal Hotel's Chinese restaurant for tim sum buffet. Well..... don't waste your money!
SP was kind enough to give us a lift to KLCC. From KLCC, we took the MRT to Central Market and from Central Market, we walked to Chinatown and then walked back to Hotel. Ming managed to get some interesting souvenirs from Central Market.
Nelson and Alwin came to fetch us for dinner. Dinner was somewhere in PJ . The restaurant was very crowded but we managed to get a table. The food was not bad! We had salted egg coated crabs and fried pig throttle!
Then, Nelson drove us to Alwin's place to pick up his car and drove us to 65 for drinks. Did not stay long as we did not enjoy the place, anymore.

29th Aug
Ming wanted to have toast for breakfast and we ended up having pancake! After breakfast, we went over to Times Square for a look-see. Took a cab ride (M$25) to Mid Valley and had Leong Tau Foo lunch. Ming is not into fish and some pieces had the fish meat taken out because he did not like the taste! Nelson and Alwin came to fetch us to The Curve and we managed to spend some time walking around the place before we set off to Bangsar for dinner - Korean BBQ!
Dinner was great and the company was wonderful! The owner even gave us some extra dishes!
Dessert was at Sakura.... and then we called it a night.

30 Aug
After breakfast at nearby cafe, went to MetroJaya to do last minute shopping before we went to Jalan Imbi for Bak Kut Teh and then back to hotel to check out and proceeded to airport.
Arrived back at Singapore and checked in to Golden Landmark Hotel. Went home to drop my luggage before bring Ming to Heeren. Ming wanted to check out this shopping Mall. Raymond came to meet us and we then went to meet up with Gerald for dinner. After some discussion, we went to Eng Seng Coffee Shop for Pepper Crab. Raymond commented that it was a good meal! He must have enjoyed the crabs prawns and the noddles!
Gerald drove us to Marina Barrage for a night stroll & view before we ended up at Chinatown for dessert!

31 Aug
Malaysia National Day! Er.... its a working day in Singapore, though! However, I was on leave! Brought Ming for a walking trip around his hotel...Arab street....and then to the Wholesale market, to Albert Court, LaSalle and then to Raffles City Shopping Centre. Unfortunately the shop he wanted to visit already closed down. We had lunch at the food court and he enjoyed the Laksa dish....spicy enough! Walked over to the Art Museum and managed to visit a few galleries FOC (before 2pm)! Then, afternoon tea at The Cathay before I took him to Chinatown and let him 'loose' on his own! Hahahahahaha!
Met up again for dinner. Went to Swissotel Merchant Court for the famous buffet at Cafe Ellenborough. It was a delicious meal - chili crabs, fried fish (big fish), crayfish, sashimi, oysters, lots of desserts, including durians!
Gerald managed to join us for coffee at the end of our meal!

01 Sep
Went to meet Ming at the hotel and helped him checked out. Bade him goodbye and safe trip back to Hong Kong!

These few days have been good for me....it was a good trip to KL. Ming was a great travel companion, fun and easy to get along! Hope he enjoy the trip too!

Going towards 46

Having completed 45 years, I am moving on into my 46th year! Is that an achievement???!!!

The week started well.... work has been busy and sales have been pretty good...it's like back to my good old days! Hope it stay that way!

Went to 民歌餐厅on Tuesday to listen to my favourite group and was told of a switch in schedule. Hesitated to go in at first but decided to try it out! The group of 2 gals and 1 guy was great! In fact, better vocals than my favourite group! Will definitely come more often when they play !

Went into JB on Saturday (22 Aug). Smooth traffic. Went to the nearby shop house for the famous Curry fish head. Quite pricey for Malaysia standard...tasty except very little meat....
Took a cab to behind Leisure Mall for my favourite foot reflex. It was great! Bought some stuff before meeting up with Jason & friends.

Booked my famous steamboat for the evening and invited Jason, Ho, James and Kelvin from JB to come in for dinner. Raymond, Gerald, Tong and Justin also came for dinner. Dinner was great and the company was superb! After dinner, some of us went over to Udders for the Mao Shan Wang Durian Ice Cream! The night ended well and I was glad the Malaysians enjoyed themselves! Great Singaporean hospitality! Hahahahaha!

It was a good week..... Life goes on........

Seventh Heaven

Had steamboat at our usual place for dinner and then decided to proceed somewhere for desserts. Derrick suggested an ice-cream place and we all agreed. This shop is located at really ulu place..in town! Just behind the railway station, where the old Gan Eng Seng School was.

Seventh Heaven is a small 'cafe', not many tables. As it is mainly in wholesale business, the cafe serves as a place to try the products. There were many types of ice creams.....a lot with liqueur. We even had interesting flavour such as Bandung! We ordered about 7 different flavours and even a warm chocolate 'cake' with vanilla ice cream. The ambiance was cosy and the taste was delicious! We even got to try a special ice cream----with Mexican chili!

Interesting place... can go again...

Eating Weekend

The traffic on Saturday morning was terrible! Having checked the woodlands checkpoint, I was not sure if we should venture in....

Finally decided that we should go ahead and arranged to meet George and Raymond at Kranji MRT at 12 noon. Surprisingly the traffic was a lot better than expected. Immigration clearance from Singapore was swift... as usual, the traffic to the Johore checkpoint was crawling.... only 2 lanes! After clearing the immigration in Johore, off to lunch! Went to the usual Bak Kut Teh place. Bak Kut Teh, Braised pig trotter and special chicken dish.....yum, yum!

Then, off to Tebrau Jusco for some shopping. Walked around the mall, they bought some name stickers, had green tea ice cream, kueh bahulu. iced coffee and then to Pelangi....for our foot reflex / massage. George and I had foot while Raymond had body. After a 60's hair cut for Raymond, we went to Taman Gardens for a seafood feast! George and I had 2 huge glasses of Dragon Fruit juice to wash down the BBQ squids, stingray, fish, vege and prawns! So much food!

The traffic back to Singapore was very smooth. Amazing!

Sunday afternoon was spent travelling around East side of Singapore with Raymond. We went to Katong and had Katong Laksa, Teochew Soon Kueh, mini Durian rolls.. and then to Parkway Parade before ending up at Geylang and had fishhead steamboat for dinner. It was a pretty hot afternoon.....

Darkness

Got a call from my maid when out having dinner. Power failure at home. Panic!

Had to rush home asap.... could not figure out where the power was. Called the usual electrician and he came pretty quickly. Checked through and confirmed that the main power switch has failed. Managed to get it changed and back into lights again!

Glad that I was around....what if I were overseas.......

爱琴海 - 民歌餐厅

Met up with a new friend, Woofie, for dinner at basement of Plaza Singapura. Went to the food court earlier but could not get a seat. Settled for a sausage joint instead.....

Friends always complain that I walk very fast. They should meet Woofie! I could hardly catch up with him! He had to slow down many times to wait for me to catch up! Must be old age......

Went to a Chinese folk song establishment - Music Dreamer Live! Cafe. The singers tonight were quite entertaining. I have not been to one for a very long time! The singers looked at us and mentioned that they welcomed us to submit songs for them to sing. They may not know the songs of the 50's to 70's, but they would try! Do we really look so old??????!!!!!! Well, we submitted a songs of the 90's and they were surprised! Never trust a book by its cover!

This Weekend...

Went for move with a friend on Friday. The movie was BLOOD, THE LAST VAMPIRE. When we were about to go into the theatre, the attendant looked worried and concerned. He reminded me that there was a age restriction for the movie, and requested to check my friend's age. My friend was 26! He was upset! This was the 1st time he got checked! It was so amusing! Not for my friend........

Met some 'old friends' on Saturday. It was a pleasant surprise. Someone I met 2 years' ago and I have been hoping to meet him again and I did! Then, someone I came across many years ago and I briefly passed him by few months back and I actually meet him face to to face! In the evening, I had dinner with a old friend who came from China to Singapore to work. A friend of his came to meet up and to my surprise, it was someone I knew but was never introduced! "Fruitful Saturday'!

A very close friend moving back to JB this weekend to start his new job. Have been meeting up for dinner when he was here. Will really miss him..... wishing him all the best for the new job!

A close friend came back from holiday in NZ. Was trying to catch up and talk about beautiful New Zealand.....miss the place very much!

Called LCN today and found out that it's her daughter's birthday! To make it special, she has a special dress for her! It's her dress 40 years ago! She has kept the dress for so many years and wanted to give it to her daughter! It's a beautiful dress that her father bought in Japan and she has kept it for so many years!

I really do not know what to say... it's amazing that she has kept that dress for 40 years! However, I am not sure if the daughter would want that dress....the fashion at that time.......hahahahahahaha!

Last Week

1st week of June was not a good start...business has been extremely slow! Not many phone calls and very few sales! How to survive???!!! The week ended and I only managed to clock half the weekly target! My worst performance so far! Help! If this go on for another 2 weeks, I am really in deep trouble!

Went with Gerald to JB on Saturday. The 1st link was super-jammed and we decided to take the 2nd link, though the toll was more expensive and much further away from town. Still, it was better than getting stuck in the jam!

1st stop was Tampoi for lunch. Went to the popular shop for steamed fish, Bak Kut Teh, and some other dishes. Then, off to Pelangi for foot reflex. Really enjoyed the 2 hours of foot reflex! Called Jason and met up with him and James for dinner. He brought us to a nearby place for fish head steamboat. It was ok....not that fantastic, though. Told Jason that I would bring them to try the Singapore fish head steamboat one day!

After dinner, went to Giant for some last minute shopping, before ended up for satay. The chicken satay were delicious. Normally I would not go for Malay satay. This place was really good. Enjoyed the drink as well - rose syrup with lime! Sedap!

By the way we got back to Singapore, it was past 12 midnight. Another day gone by so quickly....

Birthdays!

Yesterday was Richard's Birthday! Hope you have had a wonderful day!

Today is Nancy's Birthday! In fact, we just had dinner with her! It has been a while since we last gathered together for dinner! Managed to learn that her boyfriend would be busy with a friend's wedding and would not be having dinner with her. Called Terence and Vincent (they were all on leave, except me!) and arranged to meet up for dinner with Nancy!

I have known Nancy for at least 12 years. Nancy and Terence believed in me and worked with me in setting up and running the travel arm at Safe2Travel. During that 3 years, we did well and I owed a lot to them. They made it possible for me. Though we have all moved on, we still make a point to meet up!

Dinner was great and the company was superb!

3D2N Hong Kong Escapade (29 - 31 May)

Before I realise it, I am back!

29 May

Woke up about 4am.. and left my place about 4:45 to the airport to catch the flight (Jetstar) to Hong Kong. Check in was smooth and before 7am, the plane took off as per schedule.

The flight took about 3hours 20 mins and before I could take a proper nap, the plane landed at Hong Kong International Airport. After immigration and custom clearance, a pleasant surprise awaited me! Jack and Joseph, from Taiwan, waited for me at the airport!

It was great meeting them! They arrived before me and decided to wait for me. Together, we took the Airport Express to Kowloon Station and then went on separate ways to our hotel.

Checked in into Prudential Hotel. All guests have to have their temperature checked. The staff put a gadget on my forehead to check my temperature!

The room was pretty good, better than I expected! After dropping my luggage, I headed off to the meeting point to meet Jack, Joseph and Wallace. It was great to meet Wallace again.....been a while. Went to a nearby place for Dim Sum. The spread was rather good and delicious. We were waited for Chartchai to join us but his flight was late and he could not make it to join us. Went over to YMCA Salisbury to meet Chartchai and the room there was quite good (about HK$880).

Afternoon was free at leisure and each has his own program. Jack went to meet his old friend, Joseph and Wallace went to karaoke, Chartchai went to buy DVDs and I went window shopping.

Dinner was at the Korean Restaurant (near my hotel). At dinner place, Frankie joined us and we also have Win who flew in after work from Bangkok. Everyone was together again! We also had Raymond, a good friend of Wallace and Frankie. Dinner was delicious. They ordered a lot of food! The last time we meet together was in May 2008 (Bangkok) and there's simply a lot to catch up! After dinner, we proceeded for desserts!

30 May

Breakfast with Ming at a nearby Teahouse before I have to rush off to meet up with the rest at IFC. Everyone turned up, except Jack and Joseph who waited at the wrong ZARA! We decided to have a snack nearby while waiting for them. We went to a restaurant (Michilen award) - a noodle and wanton restaurant. Before we realised, the snack became lunch! I overheard someone asked the waitress as he sat down, " Do you serve wanton here?"..... really a joke!

Anyway, after lunch, we caught a bus ride to Stanley market. Everyone had the octopus; I had coins! The journey took about 45 mins... and it was a sunny day at Stanley - very crowded. Managed to get a few T-shirts there.

Back at Central, Chartchai and Win went to collect some stuff they ordered, Jack , Joseph, Wallace and Frankie went to more brand shopping while I went back to Hotel to freshen up.

Dinner was over at Hong Kong Island, near the Central Escalator - Kumatei : Japanese Restaurant. Again, there were lots of food to eat! The BBQ beef was simply superb! After dinner, we continued with drinks over at Kowloon side before we called it a night.

31 May

Finally managed to have my wanton noodle at the famous 龙记招牌云吞shop. The wanton noodle I had the day before was a disappointment... glad that I managed to eat on my last day in Hong Kong!

Then, off to sham shui Po with Ming for a short visit. On a Sunday morning, there were many people setting up stores on the road. It's a place where there's lot of 2nd hand and also electronic/electrical stuff. It was very interesting.

Met up with everyone again for dim sum lunch. Andy, friend of Win, Wallace and Frankie came to join us. Lots to eat again!

After lunch, Win and Chartchai went off to shop at the factory outlets (near the airport) while the rest of us walked around the Harbour City. Joseph and I sat down for tea at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel and later Frankie and Jack joined us.

Jack and Joseph invited me to join them in their cab ride to the airport, instead of going on my own. Save me money! The trip to the airport was about HK$200. Actually, it worth it if you have 3 -4 people.

My check in was at Terminal 2 while they had to check in at Terminal 1. We managed to meet up again inside the terminal. Jack contacted me and I went over to join them at the airline lounge. Jack signed me in. Had beef noodle and juices, before I rushed back to my terminal to do some last minute shopping before boarding my flight back to Singapore.

Arrived 5 mins before midnight.

Though the trip was rather short but the purpose was to catch up and we did that. I am happy that everyone made an effort. Without that, the trip would not have been possible. I have known everyone for at least 5 years, and I am glad to be part of this 'family'!

Coming Trip to Hong Kong

Will be flying off this Friday to Hong Kong. Will be meeting up with my families from Taipei, Bangkok and Hong Kong!

This trip was planned a few months ago with the original intention to meet in Phuket. After some considerations, we decided to meet in Hong Kong.

With the recent H1N1 virus, I was not sure if we would still go ahead with the trip. Chartchai and Win had already booked the flight and would go ahead even we change our mind. Glad to know that the virus is 'under control' and I managed to book my flight and hotel. Jack and Joseph cam back from USA and also booked their Hong Kong trip!

Last year, we meet up in Bangkok. We will be meeting up in Hong Kong this year! Looking forward!

John's Visit

John Dam finally got back into the Travel industry after a 3-year ban. He sold his shares of the company to his partners and was not allow to work in any travel company for 3 years. In March this year, he is back is his passion.

John flew in from Bangkok on Thursday night (21 May). On Friday, he went to visit some agents and we were to meet up for dinner. I met his business partner, Stephen and also Steve Fung, the famous Blue-Eye boy of Mr Chan (Ananda Travel)! Sheila drove and we (myself, John and Stephen) went to Chinatown for dinner. Phang was already there and we ordered Clay pot chicken rice, satay, grilled bean curd + cuttlefish. After dinner, we went to Marina Barrage for a walk. The view there was really nice!

We ended the night with a drink + dessert at Clarke Quay.....very crowded place on Friday night.

Saturday was early morning for me....my eyes were still 'asleep'. Had to be at the hotel at 8:30am. Breakfast with John, Shaun and Phang. Went to Rangoon Road for the famous Bak Kut Teh. Very peppery but delicious. Braised pig throttle not as delicious as the one in JB though! After breakfast, we went to Ah Koon Kopitiam for coffee and bread!

They continued after coffee without me....... on the way back, I passed by a bakery opposite Hong Lim market. There was only 1 item but it was running out fast. the queue was there and everyone seemed to be buying the same bun. Being a typical Singaporean, I went to queue and bought the bun! It was delicious but I have no idea what bun it was!

John flew back to New Zealand on Saturday night.

Once a Malaysian?

Nick commented recently that I was once Malaysian. I refused to accept that comment!

Well, I went to check and found out that in 1963, Singapore, Malaya, Brunei cam together to form the Federation and called Malaysia. In 1965, Malaya 'kicked' Singapore out of the Federation and we became Independent the same year! So, for those who were born in the period of the Federation, were they supposed to be Malaysian?

I went to take a look at my Birth Certificate. It stated there Country of Birth - Singapore. Nationality - Singapore Citizen.

So....... Were I a Malaysian? The answer is ..............NO!

Old Age

Was chatting with a friend last week. People like me..spend my life pursuing my dream.... achieving my dream and then.....what? When I grow old, who would be by my side? Haven't I thought about it? The truth is ..... I have, many times!

When I was in my travel days, I was working almost every day! I remember I dated someone who gave up on me because I simply did not have time for her!

All these years, I have had the opportunities to meet people from all over the world, and their friendship has sustained me till now.

But, who will be by my side when I grow old ..........

My Previous Company

Met up with an ex-colleague for dinner. As usual, talked about work and honestly, I am really glad I left that place!

Things obviously have not gotten better. In fact, it has worsen! Well, I could be bias...but I had lunch with an ex colleague and I am sure I am definitely not!

To me , the Company was fine and in fact, there's great potential. The problem lies with the management....1 person. After some of us left, there was great shift in manpower...... the 'problematic' person was finally being removed to do something else! In fact, during my exit interview, the HR told me that they would take serious action and I am glad they did! If only they could also do something to that person who is the management!

Travel business is really not doing well. Heard that some big boys have started implementing pay cut and compulsory no pay leave. This is really not a good sign. SARs was the same ..but this seems worst.

The forecast is not good. With the H1N1 virus...it is not helping.......

Last Sunday.....

A friend wanted to go in JB to pump petrol and I gladly went along. Was supposed to leave at 9am....... 9:10 and still no sms.. sms him and he only just got up! Anyway, it was about 10 and he finally came and off we went. Took the wrong turn and ended up seeing more of Singapore before we reached the custom. Then, the thing that worried me happened - jam!!!!!!!! Started to jam from the custom...... slowly we edged towards JB and finally after 1 hour, we finally cleared through JB custom! Hopefully they improve the situation .... going in could really be a bad experience!

1st stop was to give the car a good wash - M$8...quite a good price to have some people washed and wipe clean the car. Then, off to the famous Bak Kut Teh shop near Taman Garden. It was delicious! Shopping came next and we went to Leisuredrome and I managed to buy a present for Bennett's house warming.

A few hours across the causeway and enough to do what I wanted to....eat and shop!

Had to go over to Bennett's place for house warming. Managed to locate the place ..... cosy. A lot of guests were invited. Then, after food, they started to play game...... Uncle Ben is too old for party game..... managed to find excuse and left the place!

weekend come and go very fast! Have a week ahead before weekend again...... haiz......

The 'Better' Half.....

During lunch today, some colleagues were going through a colleague's wedding photos. They were chatting about one of the photos where they remarked that the guy inside would have been a better husband! Huh? What???????

She met this guy after her Haj but at that time. she already knew the current husband-to-be. The guy's father was her god-father... and he was interested to match-make them. She remarked that perhaps she should have gone for that guy instead!

The current husband is a much older guy. When I looked at the photos, it reminded me of the famous singer from Malaysia who married a rich older guy! For my colleague, the husband is not rich...just older! Hahahahahaha! They had quite a lot of disputes on where to go for honeymoon and what hotel to stay in, etc. Finally, they went to Gentings......she was not impressed...... she wanted to go overseas....take plane........stay in nice hotel....romantic honeymoon....

The colleagues reckoned that she did not make the right choice ... and she agreed! Terrible! Anyway, she is resigned to her fate!

Everyone wants a rich boyfriend/husband...... everyone hopes to be pampered and not have to work after marriage. A close friend of mine always dreams of having a rich husband, even after she got married! The husband is not rich but does pamper her once a while, though! Another friend has a rich boyfriend who buys her many presents....she loves to be pampered.....

If you have a choice.... would you prefer a rich boyfriend as well? If I have a rich girlfriend, I would........

'Foodful' Week.......

This week has been pretty good....

Business, in general, has slowed down a lot but still managed to meet target for the week..... not sure about the following few weeks........ (must think positive) The management has been kind enough to reduce the target a little ...not much but better than nothing!

Caught up with a good friend on Monday for dinner; and then with some friends for dinner on Wednesday..... and celebrated a belated birthday dinner with my best friend on Friday and finally an advanced birthday dinner with friends yesterday! Eat! Eat! Eat! On Monday, it was Cafe Cartel, famous for its pork ribs; Wednesday was Zi Char.... Teochew style, famous for its fried rice, fried sambal sweet potato leaves. steamed fish, etc. With my best friend, we went for the Japanese buffet at Safra Mount Faber and last night, it was at out all time favourite steamboat! Sometime I learned last night....... blend small bitter gourd with green apple (and add Yogurt) and drink every night.....cleanse the body, lower cholesterol, etc........

Still in KL...

02 May

Went to catch up with Sam for lunch and movie at Pavilion.... was there early and saw LiJin Chinese Restaurant having Dim Sum Buffet......M$20++. Hmm.... that only S$XX! Very worth it! Must try! Called Nelson and learned that he was also at Pavilion. When he heard that, he wanted in! Booked for another 3 more people! The spread was not too bad, especially at that price! Also ordered Peking Duck. A friends of mine has eaten Peking Duck at this shop for a couple of times...only M$38! It was a good meal!

Show started at 2:30pm...Wolverine. The theatre was crowded. The movie was ok. I would not say very fantastic, though.

Thought bought some stuff at Pavilion and then back to hotel to rest before dinner.

Dinner was at a Malay Buffet (again!) restaurant, opened by the Malay astronaut. SP has invited me for dinner and there were many guest...from Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The spread was good but I guess I was not a keen supporter of Malay cuisine.

After dinner, we went over to Fai's condo for more drinks and dessert. Joe gave me a ride back to the hotel. Tiring day!

03 May

Check out day. Went to get some stuff at Sungei Wang before Nelson came and fetch me to the airport....Jetstar back to Singapore.

In Kuala Lumpur ....

Half day on Thursday and then rushed off to buy some stuff before going home to collect the bag and then to the bus Terminal at Lavender.

As usual, the bus was full. Soon, I was on my way to KL. The good thing about leaving in the afternoon is that you could avoid any traffic congestion, especially with Friday being a public holiday. During one of the comfort stops, the police stopped the coach and did some check. Some passengers had to produce documents. The police was very slow and totally not efficient. Wasted a lot of time before we were on our way.

Nelson came to fetch me to Radius International and we had dinner at Jalan Ah Lor....my favourite place!Hahahahaha! Always brought back memories! Also, caught up with Ben for drink/dessert.

Got up early on Friday but very tired....why? Slept at about 5 in the morning! Went to catch up with a friend in another hotel. Heard he was in town and had not seen him for ages! SP came and we went for breakfast. Went to the same market ...hot and stuffy.....but very crowded! Had some local dishes and then off to Chinatown for a stroll, before heading back to hotel. Nelson came and drove me to Mid Valley for lunch. Met up with some of his friends there.
Dinner was Korean Buffet BBQ at Bangsar. Went there for lunch before. There were 9 of us and the food was great and the company was crazy! I had a great time! The buffet spread was not bad! There were the appetisers, the meat, vege, pancakes and soups.... follow by ice cream! For about M$50 per person, its a steal for Singaporean after the currency conversion! Would I go there again? Of course!
Supposed to head to our regular joint for drinks but it was not opened. Went to another but did not enjoy the ambiance. Went back to hotel early......early night.........z.z.z.z.z.z.z.z.

Long Weekend Coming Up

Finally managed to book the trip to KL.

Originally wanted to fly on JAL since the other budget carriers were not cheap. Then, with the swine virus, perhaps should avoid international carrier. Can avoid, should avoid....new motto....

After going though few websites, finally settled for coach in and flight out....saved 1/3 of the original cost! Not bad!

Looking forward? Hmm.....

25 April

25 April - 3 friends' birthday!

Happy Birthday, Judy! It has a quite a while since we last met. I really miss New Zealand.... and also fijoes! It's the season again!

Happy Birthday, Ming! Hope to meet you again next month! Looking forward to visit Hong Kong again!

Happy Birthday, Jason! Thank you for the BBQ dinner! The food was delicious and the company was great!

Spent the whole day in JB. Gerald came to pick me up and then we proceeded to the causeway. At 10 in the morning, the jam had started to build up. The 1st thing was to get a car wash. Only M$8 and they vacuumed and washed/cleaned the car!

After car wash, we went straight for food - Bak kut Teh! The food was delicious! Must always order the braised pig throttle....yum, yum! After lunch, we went shopping at Pelangi Plaza. Unfortunately the shop that we used to patronised has closed down...gone back to Malacca...

2 more stops before BBQ dinner..... went for food reflex. 2 hours on foot reflex...so relaxing....... so 'shiok'...... did not feel like walking......... final stop at Giant........ grocery! Always enjoy shopping at Giant! There's so much to buy....... cheap!

Then, it's off to Jason's place for BBQ! Had talked about this BBQ for quite a while and decided to do it on his birthday. Ho and friend were there too.... Just when the fire was ready and the meats were placed on it, suddenly we saw the fog..... the ppl were spraying, right during dinner time! We hurriedly moved the food inside until the sky was clear again..... More guests appeared and then it was cake cutting!

The night ended well and then it was time to crossed back to Singapore...before the car turn into something else......

Howdy, Stranger!

What a pleasant surprise!

Got back home as usual and mum gave me a note with a telephone number on it and asked if I knew the number. It was not familiar but I knew the number was from my neighbourhood. Then, my mum told me the White Boy is back. Adrian is back!

Adrian stays a few blocks from me and we have known each other for 30+ years! Adrian is an Albino. He has been living in US for many years. The last time he was back was 2 years ago. He is back this trip to celebrate his father's 80th birthday!

Though we hardly see each other over the years, he would make a point to catch up with me whenever he is back.... in fact, I think I am the only friend he has!

Glad to have caught up with him earlier and hopefully to catch up again before he leaves on Sunday night.

A Good Day...

Got up early this morning...my maid was already up preparing the vegetable dish. The night before, she helped to cook the braised pig throttle. I was busy trying to cook my cheese cake. Soon, everything was ready, meat, veges, rice and dessert!

I have 2 Filipino lady colleagues who love pork and I promised them home cooked meal - prepared by my Muslim maid! Hmm......

When we started our lunch, we thought the food was too much..... well, never underestimate the Filipino ladies! Hahahahaha! Myra had so much! She was saying too full and when I brought out the cheese cake, she had room for it as well!

Gerald sms me for dinner and we met up at Chinatown. Met up with Derrick who drove us to Tanjong Pagar instead to have the famous Bak Kut Teh. We had a feast! Ate so much meat today!

Cannot sleep with a full stomach.... it is going to be a long night......
