With the end of 2008, it will also be the end of my blog. I have enjoyed writing this blog and I thank you for reading it!
Many of you would be surprised but I am not stopping here. There would be matters that I would want to pen them down but the 'viewership' would be limited.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Goodbye and All the best to you in 2009!

Year End Festivities
Every Christmas season, the family will come together and this year we celebrated earlier due to Steve not being around on Christmas.
Pot luck dinner on 21 Dec. I prepared my usual Japanese jelly and potato salad. We had teochew cold crab (which I did not enjoy), curry chicken, fried bee hoon and vegetable, pork ribs and prawn-paste chicken! There's was lots to eat (my friend from Shanghai will complain again if he reads this)
After dinner, it was giving presents to the children and then the usual gift exchange. This year, I finally got the 'ang pow'! Hooray!
Christmas is the most expensive time of the year for me. So many gifts to buy. Usually I spend a lot on Christmas. This year, I also spent a lot but not as much as the last few years. Why? Bad economy!
Christmas Eve was a quite time for me. Was at home. Everywhere would be jam-packed and I certainly did not want to squeeze with everyone!
Christmas morning was an early morning for me. Planned to go to JB with Jeffrey. He came to pick me up and we went in to JB around 9+ in the morning. The traffic was smooth under we crossed the old immigration gates. Went from 4/5 lanes to 2 lanes. The road meandered for a distance and with the slow traffic, we finally arrived at the new JB checkpoint.
1st stop was breakfast and we went to near Holiday Plaza.... a coffee shop. After breakfast, went to Leisure Mall and then to foot reflex at my usual shop. We visited Tesco and then late lunch at Taman Gardens before heading back to Singapore. The coming back was smooth. I guess everyone was afraid of the jam at the new custom and avoided going in.
Met up with Derrick for some drinks on Christmas night.
Had dinner with Derrick on Saturday night. Went to a Korean restaurant in Chinatown. The food as not as good as I thought. Well, I would not be going there again! After dinner, we went to a nearby pub for some wine. it was a good night out. Thanks, Derrick!
This afternoon, attended Andrew& Fiona wedding lunch at Novotel. Glad to meet up with the ex-colleagues from UOB. Congrats to you both!
Few more days to go before I say goodbye to 2008!

Daddy Was Here
Daddy flew in on Friday afternoon. Managed to get off to meet up at the hotel - Golden Landmark. Got upgraded! Thks, Kay!
Brought Daddy for Bak Kut Teh at beach road. After lunch, walked him to Sim Lim for him to shop and then meet up with him again for dinner. Being steamboat lovers, we went to the steamboat restaurant at Shaw Tower
Then, an early night for Daddy.
Saturday morning was usual for me.... back in office to clear any outstanding. Then, met up with Daddy again and brought him to Maxwell for Chicken rice. The queue was very long. Was it worth the wait.... Daddy found it average.
Then Daddy wanted to go for foot reflex and so brought him to a friend's shop and left him there for the rest of the afternoon. Had to go to Godfrey's place for the baby's full month party. Stayed for a while and then had to leave to meet up with Daddy for dinner.
Gerald drove and picked us up from the hotel . Went to a Teochew Zhi Char store further up from Little India. The waiting time was rather long.... we had steamed fish, pork chop, vegetable & fried rice. The dishes were Delicious and the price was very reasonable! Worth going back there again!
Them, we went to Marina Barrage. This is Singapore's 1st Dam. The night view from there of the Flyer was great! I did not realise about this new interesting attraction! Worth bringing my friends there! Only problem - transport to get there.
Dessert at Lau Pa Sat before sending Daddy back to the hotel. Daddy enjoyed the night out.....
This morning's flight back to Bangkok. Safe Trip and take care till we meet again!

Long Weekend
3 Days off - Saturday to Monday!
Went in to JB on Saturday. Took the MRT to Kranji to catch the smiley bus. AT the bus stop, it was very crowded! I have never seen such queue! There were a lot of trucks as well. Waited a short while and found that many have been waiting for quite a while and so I decided to catch the MRT to Marsiling and followed by a short cab ride to the checkpoint.
The immigration/custom was not very crowded. Cleared through quickly and decided to walk across the causeway when I saw 'hundreds' of people waiting for the bus! The walk was not too bad. The sea breeze helped to cool down the warm sun.....
At Johore immigration/custom, it was jam packed. The queues were outside the building! Queueing to clear would take easily 30mins to 1 hour and with so many people, its sauna! Decided to pay S$10 and share a car going in. The car had to join the car queue but at least, I got to sit and enjoy the aircon. Finally went through the custom and made my way to Mutiara Hotel. Checked in and got upgraded to Club Floor. Not bad!
Caught up with Jason & James. Went to the new Carrefour near their place. It was not very big though..... saw some people selling bamboo glutinous rice ...tempted to try but had to go for dinner..
Dinner was at the 'famous' restaurant where the owner dictates the dishes. Ho and his friend were already there waiting for us. Dinner was good and the company was great! We had so much fun chatting and laughing! After dinner, we went to Jason's place for some wine and karaoke. Jason and Ho were belting out oldies.....really oldies!
So, it was time to go to the Airport. Jason has been kind to fetch me there to meet Sam, arriving from Penang. The flight arrived on time and I was eagerly looking out. Someone passed me by and I wondered if he could be Sam. However, he has no glasses......waited again and then, he appeared. He looked so small! Totally different from what I have perceived!
On the way back to Hotel, Jason stopped at a stall for us to try the Roti Pool...a very thick bread with a special dip. He said it's very local but most locals have not heard of it! It was rather ordinary for me, though. By the time we got to the hotel, it was past midnight.
Sunday was sleeping in late. Then, off to breakfast. We went to a nearby coffeeshop where everyone was having Wanton noodle and otah. Crowded must be good and so we joined the queue. The noodle came after about 20 - 30 mins. Was it worth the wait? Not really! The noodle was ok..the char siew were very thinly sliced and the wanton tasted ordinary.
After breakfast, took a cab ride to Jusco, Tebrau City. This is the biggest Mall in Johore Bahru. Found that Tesco opened next to it and visited both! Back to the hotel and had lunch at the famous Duck restaurant nearby. The dishes were rather delicious. Jason came by and passed me my camera (accidentally left in his car).
Jason gave us a lift to City Square. Had a looked around before we went over to Pelangi Plaza to have something to drink. We bought the bamboo charcoal bread! I love it!
We walked from Pelangi to Taman Gardens and decided to have dinner at the little backyard open air restaurant. We had Kampong chicken, Bak Kut Teh, Chye Poh Egg and vege! The food was not bad! So full!
Walked back to the hotel...needed to shed off those kilos!
Monday morning was rather early morning Sam had to leave for the airport to catch his flight back to Penang. I stayed on for a while before leaving for the causeway - back to Singapore!
Have been trying to catch up and am glad that we finally met up!
2 weekends ago I had friend from Hong Kong; last weekend from Penang.......hmm.......who's coming this weekend????!!!!!!! So busy!

Birthdays
01 Dec 08
Happy Birthday to that special someone. We have known each other for a long time and though we hardly meet and chat, you know very well that all these years, you have remained very special in my heart! Happy Birthday!
It's also Franco's Birthday! He was a friend of Gerald Chia and I was introduced to him in Hong Kong. We caught up in Singapore and also Hong Kong but it has been a few years since we last met up! Heard he put on heaps! Hahaha! Still, I have not forgotten your Birthday..... Happy Birthday, Franco!
03 Dec 08
It's Tanaka's Birthday! Tanaka and I met many years ago, in Singapore when he was here on a Rotaract exchange program. Then, he came on his own and I hosted him at my brother's place. We met again when I went to Japan. Visited him at his hometown of Kyoto and also his place in Tokyo. That's many years ago! Such memories!
Somehow we lost touch for years and I finally found him...but recently lost him again.... I am sure I will be able to locate him again... Happy Birthday, Tanaka!

Enjoyable Weekend
28th Nov (Friday)
On leave today but had to go back office to ensure some urgent matters were settled.
Left for the airport and reached about 12:40pm. CX717 finally arrived........ hmm....most people are out but I still have not seen him.. did he get on the flight? Then, he appeared and straightaway, we recognised each other.
Went a cab ride to Hotel - Golden Landmark. After checking in, brough him out for lunch at Bugis. Walked around the shops and also the Kuan Yin Temple. Had Mee siam at QiJi. Then, off to Orchard Road to see the place, stopping over at Takashimaya and also Centrepoint.
Met up wth Gerald for dinner at Race Course Road. Had Samy's Curry Fishhead! Guess what, Ming does not eat Fish! Well, we had chicken and mutton as well.
Went to Clarke Quay to take a look at the place and then to Chinatown for dessert. So much for the day!
29 Nov (Saturday)
A busy day.......
Started with Merlion Park, showing him the Merlion, Ferris Wheel and also the Esplanade. Then, walked through Fullerton Hotel to Raffles Place MRT. Visit Far East Square before going over to Katong. Caught up with Wong & Tony and had laksa together. After lunch, stop over at Suntec, walked the underground shopping mall, brief stop at Raffles City Shopping Centre, before heading out to Toa Payoh.
Gerald has a road show at Toa Payoh. Showed him around the place (and he bought a stone bowl at Cash Converter!) before Gerald drove us (Terence joined us) for some sightseeing. Went to Guang Ming Shan to see the biggest temple in Singapore.
Dinner is the favourite steamboat at Katong. Albert, Alan and Tony came to join us. Dinner was great (as usual) and the company was fun! We wanted to have durian for desserts but when we got to Chinatown, they finished selling. What a pity! We then decided to stop at a pub for a drink.
Before turing in for the night, Gerald drove into Orchard Road to see the Christmas lights. The traffic jam was terrible, even after 11pm!
30 Nov (Sunday)
Bak Kut Teh breakfast to start the day! Too heavy, he said! Stopped over at Ya Kun for coffee/tea and kaya toast as well. Then, visited the flea market at China square and Ming (after considering over and over again) decided to buy a small antique electri fan. For S$30, not testing; for S$40 they owner will test for us. Well, he paid S$30.
One final stop before going back to hotel to pack. Visited Vivocity and showed him Sentosa. We stopped over at Daiso, the S$2 shop and he bought something interesting!
Back to the hotel, check out and went for lunch nearby. Had Hainanese chicken rice, chwee kueh and also fried carrot cake! So much for lunch!
Guess what? The electric fan does work! Hahahahahaha
Safe trip, Ming! Thanks for visiting Singapore!

My Amazing Race
Tuesday (25 Nov)
Waiting ..........6pm....quickly tidy the table, off the computer and off I went!
What's the hurry? Had to meet the group at Lakeside MRT and it's a distance from Somerset to Lakeside. Finally arrived at Lakeside...still early....
Simon drove and picked me up at the MRT, Gerald was already in the car. Went to pick up Albert. Wong and Tony were also coming along!
Mission - to go across the 2nd Link to a small town, Gelang Patah for dinner and back!
We arrived at the restaurant - different from the one that most of them went to. Never mind....just the food...... we ordered steamed fish, snails, vege, noodle, chicken wings, fried omelette and crabs! Verdict - so so...... not very tasty.
Then, we decided to go over to the restaurant that served very delicious Hor Fun. And....it was delicious! We could not eat much as we ate a lot earlier! We reckoned we would be back!
On the way to the restaurant, saw pasar malam...looked interesting. Must come and see the next time...
By the time we cleared and back in Singapore, I reached home just after 10:30pm. Tony was kind enough to give me a lift.
It was rather tiring getting in and out within 1 night......but I will do it again!

Farewell Dinner for Jessica
Dinner at Kublai Khan Mongolian BBQ at Park Mall..... last person to leave office pays for all! Lusy did not dare to go to the washroom, for fear that everyone will leave and she would be the last!
Was supposed to have steamboat dinner but it's individual pot...and not many is keen..... so chanced upon the advert for Kublai Khan and after a sure-win vote, we dropped steamboat!
The restaurant has been around for many years but none of us have actually been there. There was quite a good spread of food. The colleagues were busy eating away, trying different food.
Other than food, free flow of soft drinks and hot drinks....
The highlight of the dinner was the crabs. We had plates and plates of them! It was certainly worth the price!
In general, the food was average but for the price, it's money worth!
Purpose of dinner - bid farewell to Jessica. She is moving on!

So Silly
Yesterday, received a sms from Gerald asking me if I were at the food expo. I was on my way there....
When I arrived, I sms him to ask his location. He mentioned he was at the Bak Kua stall. I went all over the place but could not see any Bak Kua stall. Later he mentioned he was at the entrance. There were 2 entrances. I asked him whether he was at 403 or 404. He had no idea....just at the extreme left were the floats were. Huh? There were no floats! Then I asked.... Suntec or Expo.... I was at Suntec and he was at Expo! No wonder!
Such silly blunder!

Day Trip to Johore
Have always wanted to visit the Desaru Fruit Farm and finally...
Final stop is dinner! Went to Taman Gardens. So many choices.....finally decided on seafood. We had stingray, fish, kind prawn, vege and even carrot cake! Most importantly, I had my huge glass of Balonglong juice! Alan had 2 huge glasses of that! Satisfying meal!
------------------- Sawbear Travel ------------------
Met up with Alan over in JB custom. Was to meet at SG immigration but there were many people and not taking the risk to be stuck at JB custom, better meet over in JB. From the custom, we walked over to KotoRaya Mall.... wrong meeting place. Was to meet Benjy at the KotoRaya Bus Terminal. Anyway, he came over to meet us...so kind!
Off we went ... to Desaru Fruit Farm. We have been there before and we had to rely on GPS to get us there! So excited! Looking forward to a big feast of local produce!
It was a great disappointment! There was nothing! The tour would bring you to see the many fruit trees, but no plucking allowed. Fruit trees..... I grew up with them! M$18 to see the fruit trees..well...not for me! Benjy went up to ask about paying a price and eat the fruits to your heart's content and was told that they did not have enough time to prepare due to the large turnout of visitors! Obviously those pictures on the web were not true!
We travelled all the way there and had to make our way back to JB again!
Decided to go to opposite Angsana for lunch. Tucked in to Steamed Fish, steamed vege, tofu with minced meat, braised pig throttle and Bak Kut Teh! Good meal! Been there many times and still enjoy going there.
Danga Bay Mall was next. The old Ganga Bay seemed to be under renovation. The mall was and really nothing much to shop. The ice kacang advertisement looked good but do not be deceived. It's definitely not worth the money! We tried!
After all the walking around, we needed to pamper our feet. Went for foot reflex near Pelangi. Bumped into Gerald and gang at the foot reflex place. Did an hour's reflex ....so relaxing...... great !
Stopped over at Pelangi Mall.... bought some bread at Lavendar.... surprised to see Bamboo Charcoal bread.... so black..... but taste good!

Then, it's off to the causeway.... thank goodness, there was no jam. Very quickly, we arrived back into Singapore.
A long day....but enjoyable......

Wine Tasting
Finally! Our 1st wine tasting session!
Been trying to get the session in place but due to busy schedule, we had to postpone. Finally, Derrick reckoned that we could have it on Saturday (yesterday) and we quickly got it organised!
The venue was at Gerald's place but he had a road show that night. So, I had to be the host before he returned.
Derrick and Alan started the session going. We started with the wine from Australia. It was very acidic. Then we moved on to Chilean Wine - Pinot Noire. Good wine!
Gerald was delayed but finally made it back! Then, we started to try the other wines... we had terrible Shiraz from Thailand, good white wine from Chile and then South African wine from Stellenbosch - simonsig.
Other than wine, we had snack, fruit, pizzas, cream cheese with crackers, etc...
Simon, Tony, Justin, Kelvin & Datuk came to soak in the atmosphere.
By the time we left, it was already after 1am....
It was a great night.....

Birthday Greetings
Today is an important day! 2 special friends' Birthday!
I met Eric in 1992 and we clicked rather well. Due to his job, he went to Papau New Guinea to work and though he was posted to other country, he is finally back at PNG again! His family is in Singapore while he is away in PNG. Eric, Happy Birthday to you and after all these years, you are still a friend, close to heart!
I met Michael also in 1992. His family went over to NZ not too long and they bought over Kiwifruit Country. John for Ashburton brought him over to Singapore to introduce to Travel Agents. Over the years, I had many customer who visited his attractions and I had the privileged to stay at his place a few times. When my father passed away in 2001, he invited me over to stay with him for a while. I am always grateful to him and his family. Coincidentally, his children share the same birthday as mine!
Michael has sold off the attractions a few years back and moved to Hamilton. His children are studying in the uni (Auckalnd and NSW).
Happy Birthday, my dear Friend!

Happy Birthday, Frankie
It's Frankie's Birthday! Happy Birthday!
I met Frankie in Singapore in 2003 and we hit off very well, like old friends. Over the years , we have stayed in touch and visited each other many times! We became very close friends and I have stayed at his place a few times!
The last 2 years, I managed to celebrate his birthday with him. This year, I am unable. Still, my heart is with you, my dear friend, my family!

Close Shave
On Friday evening, cus called to postpone NRS (NUMBER RETENTION SERVICE). Sent an email to the parties to get it changed. Thought everything was in order until Han called. He complained about the last minute job and that no one was around to assist to do it. I understood his frustration but I could not tell cus that we could not do it. Finally, he agreed to get Chong to help.
On Saturday morning, Han called again. Andy, who raised the work order, raised for the wrong company! Put on conference call with Network people. Informed them about the correct job request, and then rush back to office to send emails to relevant parties to put the work orders correct. After a few phone calls, everything was settled correctly.
Phew! what a morning! Glad we put everything correctly. Otherwise, customer Will be calling in to complain!
This morning (Sunday), felt that something was not right. SF Consulting was supposed to have NRS on 03 Nov but due to no resources at new premises, the NRS cannot take place. Not sure if I cancel the NRS request. Better go back to office to check.
GBS has raised order for 03 Nov! Quickly sent email to the relevant parties to cancel the request and followed by a few phone calls to 1608, Exchange, OCN.
Phew! Another close shave!
I am getting too old! Have to be careful.....

Not a Good Day
Not a good day yesterday....
Got a call from a customer regarding her bill. Customer was shocked to see high data charges and her boss questioned her. She called and blamed me for not telling her about it. The truth was..... I cannot remember!
I started to check through my records but could not find anything. My boss tried to track all my conversation but also could not find anything! Strange!
There must be conversation before the purchase but we simply could not find any record!
Spoke to my boss about it and the last resort was to waive all charges incurred,,,, will this appease the customer.......

A Good Public Holiday
Was to meet up with a friend for lunch yesterday. It's already after 11am and still no news. Better give him a call....... he was still asleep! Buta!
Met at Bugis MRT and walked over to the Steamboat restaurant. The food was quite good. I was just there a few night ago but had to leave early for another appointment. This time, I could take my time and eat to my heart's content!
After the hearty steamboat, we had drinks at Subway (heavily downpour - stucked) and when the rain subsided, we went to Bencoolen street for fruit on ice.....yummy desserts!
Later in the evening, got a call from Richard who flew in from Shanghai for a training workshop. Went to meet him and his colleague and brought them to a old coffee shop, junction of Still Road and Joo Chiat Road for crabs! The coffee shop was just opposite the newly opened Four Seasons Durian Cafe!
Richard and his colleague had a good time with the crabs! A good recommendation from my personal makansutra - my eldest brother! I only watched them eat... I was still trying to digest my lunch! They had 2 big crabs, 1 big plate of mee goreng and 1 plate of vege - S$60! Very reasonable!
On the way back, stop at Mustafa for his colleague to get something and also showed them Desker Road...... educational!
It was a good day!

Happy Birthday, Kelvin!
8 years ago, I met Kelvin in HKG in a pub in HKG. Back in Singapore, we started to catch up for drinks & meals. We got along very well. Kelvin was like a younger brother to me.
For a period of time, kelvin took up a job in Shanghai but we continued to keep in touch. Last year, he went to Sydney to pursue his ambition in film-making. I was fortunately to catch up with him in Sydney for a few days during my famil trip to Canberra.
It's his Birthday today and though we are miles apart, it does not stop me from sending him greetings! Happy Birthday, Brother!
How close a brother? Only he knows.......

18 - 20 0ct : Trip to KL
18 Oct
Got up early on Saturday to catch the coach to KL. Instead of Golden Mile Complex, the meeting place was at the Transtar Bus Depot along Lavendar Street.
As usual, smooth journey to KL. Usually, there would be some traffic conjestion once we crossed the last toll gate. This time, the coach captain took a different route after the last toll gate. For a minute I thought he took a wrong turn! It's a new highway into the city. No jam! Wow!
SP was there to meet me. So kind of him! He gave me a ride to the hotel - Hotel Capitol. After checking in, we went over to Pavilion to meet up with Keith , who was also in KL. Met up with Edward as well. Had a late lunch at Jalan Ah Law. Most of the stalls were not opened. Went in Charn Kee Restaurant and had noodle. I must say, the minced pork noodle was delicious!
Met up with Jeff and then also with Daddy and Win, Brought them around Bukit Bintang and then to Pavilion (again!) for a look-see and also dinner at the Food Court. After dinner, Daddy went back to rest while we went over to 65 for a drink.
Ben and Nelson cam very late (after dinner in Malacca) and drove me for supper at Jalan Ipoh. By the time I got back it was almost 3!
19 Oct
Got to meet Daddy for breakfast at his hotel. The spread was wide but not appetising! went to his room and ....not bad.....nice corner room.... the type that I like.,...spacious. Johnny came and pick up Daddy to the airport to catch his flight.
Had to round up every one for the lunch at Ampang. Most of them were not familiar. Imagine, a Singaporean co-ordinating lunch venue for Malaysian staying in KL! Finally everyone turned up. It was Ampang Leong Tau Foo lunch! Well, it was so so...but the company was good!
After lunch, we went separate ways. Jeff gave me a lift to KLCC to meet up with Keith and Edward for a drink. Went to my favourite A&W shop for my Root Beer Float! Delicious! Then, Edward sent me back to my hotel.
Met up with Barry...finally. Chatted with him for a while. Had a good time chatting.....he's a rascal...... he has a quick and sharp tongue!
Met up with Jackson for dinner. The dinner was good and we had a good time chatting away. After dinner, had to rush back to my room...before they mess it up! Ben, Nelson and Jeff were making themselves comfortable in my room!
20 Oct
Finally got to sleep in late! went to have breakfast at the mamak shop nearby. Had 2 plain prata (quite big) and 1 glass of teh halia and it only cost me M$3! Very cheap! Chai and SP came to buy me lunch. We went to a coffeshop , supposedly known for the Yuan Yang noddle (fried bee hoon on hor fun). The dish was sedap! Then, off to the bus terminal to catch my coach back to Singapore.
Short trip, busy schedule......

Nirwana Gardens 10 Oct - 12Oct
10 Oct
2:30pm.... The department is closed! Hooray! Early release on Friday for the trip to Bintan! Everyone started to pack and gathered at the Lobby to wait for transport. Soon, we were on our way to the Ferry Terminal. At Tanah Merah Ferryy Terminal, we got our boarding pass and after a short wait, we boarded the Ferry to Bintan!
1 hour's journey and we finally arrived at Bintan. Immigration was very fast and then off to Nirwana Gardens Resort! It has been a while since my last trip in year 2000! Within 10 mins we arrived at the Resort and some time to rest and refresh ourselves before dinner at The Kelong restaurant.
The restaurant was packed! The food was tasty and the ambiance was not too bad. After dinner, some went to the pub , some went to the Karaoke room...for me..... back to my room!
11 Oct
Early morning call and then breakfast before preparing for the workshop. Breakfast spread was so so.... the one thing that you will never get is ........... pork! No pork bacon!
In the meeting room, Director spoke about the overall sales performance of the department and the individual team. He also talked about the next 6 months or so. Then, the VP came and spoke on similar topic - sales performance. We also broke into groups and brainstorm on ideas to improve processes and fun in the office.
Then, it's lunch and the buffet spread was a disappointment. The steamed fish was tough!
Many of the colleagues signed up for massage and after lunch it was Free & Easy. Some of us took the opportunity to get out of the Resort. We heard so much of Pasar Oleh Oleh and so we decided not to miss it. It's only about 10 mins journey but it cost S$6 for the trip, per person! We planned to spend at least more than 1 hour at the Pasar! When we arrived, I was already planning to catch the next available transport back! It's a small place but very boring. Wait...boring place is an understatement. The place is SUPER BORING! There were some shops selling souvenirs, some restaurants, that's about it! Totally no ambiance! What a disappointment! Dinner was BBQ near the beach....specially for us. The spread looked pretty good. Just when most people were tucking in into the seafood, it started to rain. The locals said that it's passing showers, very common. Well, the passing showers apparently kept passing by! The rain got heavy and we had to move into shelter. Well, the rain did not deter us from continuing to have fun! After dinner, some went karaoke, some went dancing, I went back to my room!
12 Oct
Sunday morning was sleep in morning. Some colleagues did not turn up for breakfast....got back about 4am! It's Free & easy and so many had late breakfast. Just after late breakfast, we had to check out and then it' lunch time! Lunch was better this time and most of us enjoyed it.
Back to the Ferry Terminal, on the ferry and back to Singapore!
Very tiring trip.....just eat, sleep, eat , sleep!

No More....
Before I switch job, I used to enjoy my 25-min bus ride to work. That 25 mins allowed me to let my imagination run wild, doing things that I could never have done (in real life)! It allowed me to 'get away ' and indulge in my own world of fantasies!
Now, everyday I walk to the MRT and catch the train ride to work, The journey takes about the same length of time, but it does not allow me that same pleasure.
It's just not the same anymore.......

Day Trip
Was supposed to go to Muar but changed my mind and decided to go to JB instead.
Met up with Keith at Kranji and then took the Smiley Bus into JB. Traffic was smooth but the JB immigration was crowded. After clearing the custom, we proceeded to the bus stop to catch the bus to Jusco Tebrau. This was the 1st time I took a bus in JB! The journey took about 30 mins.
Tebrau was rather quiet...perhaps still early. Jason called and he came and picked us up for lunch at Masai. We had Bak Kut Teh...it was OK.....
After lunch we went to the new Danga Mall...rather empty... Had donut & coffee before driving off to Pelangi for foot reflex. The foot reflex was rather painful. However, it was good..... I almost fell asleep! Keith was not so lucky.... it was painful for him throughout!
Quick dinner at Taman Gardens (had the huge glass of Balonglong - simply delicious!) before getting back to Singapore.
Before I realised...the whole day was almost over!
Before I forget.... Happy Birthday to :
- my Dear friend in Osaka, Omori san;
- my good friend, David Chen;
- my old friend, Donald Lee; and
- my close friend, Gerald Chia

Glad to be Out!
Met an ex-colleague for dinner last night.
Things are still the same back in the office. Obviously, they are very far from the projected target of S$30 million. In fact , they are not even near half the target! It's already Oct and most people would have booked their holidays!
The most shocking thing was that the projected sales target for next year is S$60 millions! It's ridiculous! Instead of telling the management that it is not achievable, they will submit a proposal for the S$60 millions!
I guess they fail to understand that when they cannot achieve that target, it will reflect very badly on them. They are the planners, they are the ones who should know the market situation and whether the target is realistic. To project something unrealistic simply means that they are not qualified! To say that they are forced to put up such a proposal is a stupid reason as the management will never admit to that and to the BOD, the planners are just craps!
Planners are professionals. They should be proud of their job! They should not compromise and present something that is not right! They lose their respect and they 'degrade' the profession!
I am glad I am out!

Pleasant Surprise
A dear friend smsed me the other day.... asked if I carried a few credit cards. I replied and asked if he was going to give me a wallet. He replied 'Yes'. He informed me that there's nine slots in the wallets... I replied that I have more than 10 discount cards! No problem at all!
Yesterday, I received a parcel. When I opened it, there was a LV wallet! Not the traditional big LV letters all over the wallet, but something more 'classy and elegant'. I was overwhelmed! I thought he was joking!
He could have given it to someone else. He chose to give it to me!

Last Weekend
Daddy and Win came over for the weekend, staying over at Ron's place. It's the F1 weekend and accommodation was so expensive. Tried making reservation at several hotels but simple too expensive!
Met up with them and some other friends from Malaysia for dinner. Daddy wanted to eat chili crabs. Have always been to Jumbo and wanted somewhere else. Johnny suggested his regular haunt - Golden Bay restaurant at YESS Centre, PP. Well..... my conclusion was the chili crabs tasted better at Jumbo! I doubt I would go back again....
On Sunday, met up with them for lunch and movie. Went to Suntec and it was rather empty! Many people stayed away because of F1! It was great for us..... not crowded. Had lunch at their favourite restaurant - The Soup Restaurant and followed by a movie - Disaster Movie. REALLY STUPID MOVIE!!!!! Win enjoyed himself very much, though.........
Though the time spend with them was limited, still I was happy to catch up, especially with Win. He spent 10 months in Obihiro recently. Just got back in end August.
Will be seeing Win soon... I believe....

Simple Lifestyle
To some of my friends, as they grow older, their lives becomes more active. There's so many activities to keep them busy. Going home early and staying home during the weekends are simply out of the question!
I beg to differ. Many people say that I have a lot of friends. Indeed, I do! However, I spend more time at home now than before!
Usually after work, I would want to go straight home, unless I have something to buy or dinner appointment. When I get home, I would have instant noodle or egg/ham sandwiches for dinner, unless of course, I eat out before I reach home.
After shower, it's TV, reading and Internet time. I used to watch a lot of TV programmes and also chat a lot on the Internet. Now, I have toned down. I make a point to keep up with my reading and also tidying up my room. During Sunday to Thursday, I will try to hit the sack by 11pm. Friday & Saturday nights are usually late nights for me. It does not mean I come home late...it just means that I sleep later on those nights!
Of late, I have been spending weekends at home. Tidying the room, watching TV programmes, listening to music and chatting on the Net. I was going through the list of people I used to chat with and realised that I hardly chat with more than half the list now! These people are still there, though.
As I age graciously, my lifestyle becomes simple. I wonder.....

Interesting Information
The last few days, I learned a lot about life in Sydney. Diana is very comfortable with her life in Sydney and she reckons that she would not want to stay anywhere else! Why? Well, she is well taken care of!
Few years ago, both of them had an accident and Charlie could not work. They started to live on social welfare from the Government. At the same time, they were seeking compensation. Well, they won and both of them got quite a substantial amount.
That was quite a while ago... Last year I visited them at their new home. Nice apartment, good neighbourhood,....but they are not working! They have not been working for quite a few years! Yet, they seem to be doing pretty well!
Then,I found out - they are still living on social welfare..... the Government gives out A$600 a week to them! On top of them, they get special rates for utilities, transport, etc..... because they are considered 'handicapped' due to the accident! Though they have fully recovered, these privileges stay forever!
Charlie told me that if he goes out to work, he could earn up to A$800 a week and after deducting the personal taxes, he would take home about up to A$600. Well, why work when the Government give out the same amount!!!!!!!
With the weekly allowance given, it is more than enough to feed the family. At this moment, they are on a month long holiday!
It's amazing!
Why bother to work when the Government can feed you instead!
Not sure if I want to live such a life.....

Busy 2 Days
Charlie & family arrived on SQ220 (A380!) on Thursday afternoon. Was already at the airport waiting for them. Managed to get 2 days off ....just nice!
When they came out, I was shocked with the amount of luggage! So many pieces! How to fit into 1 cab????!!!!!! Thank goodness, we managed to get a Maxicab....
Checked them into the hotel (Orchard Grand Court) and then left them to unpack and rest before meeting them for dinner.
Brought them to Chinatown and showed them the Buddha Relic Temple. Planned to bring them to The Soup Restaurant......no longer there! Quickly called up 100 and located one at Suntec Tower 4 basement. Took a cab there and finally settled them for dinner. Dinner was delicious.... nice restaurant....
Showed them the fountain and let them walk around it for good luck. Sent them back to hotel and went back to office... Diana and some others were still in the office! Managed to clear my work..... so tired....
Another long day....met them up at 10:30am. Fist stop was Raffles Place. Showed them the vicinity and then Singapore River, The Fullerton, Merlion, Esplanade and then to VivoCity for lunch. They got to try prata, fried prawn mee, fried carrot cake, ngoh hiong and even ice kacang! After lunch, off to Ngee Ann City where I let them loose to shop around while I sneak off for my coffee.
Then, went to Bugis and showed them the famous Kuan Yin Temple. Then back to hotel to rest. Managed to get home and rested a while before I went to meet them for dinner.
Brought them to Jumbo for seafood dinner. It was a good meal. They were fortunate enough to see the light up tonight at Singapore River, with floats. Walked around Clarke Quay before sending them back to the Hotel..It has certainly been a long day for me..... really tough for me! Hahahaha!
Would be at the hotel to see them off...... Safe and enjoyable trip to Hong Kong & China!

Busy Day
Went to office early ... to try and get the reservation through the SPEAR system as soon as possible! Why? To beat the delivery date.....but earliest is 23rd Sep! The whole day was busy trying to get all the reservation done.... was really busy!
David came over for lunch. Updated me on the happenings in UOB. Glad to catch up with him again.
My boss commented that I did not 'disturb' her today. I replied that I was too busy! Hahahahaha! She asked if there was any complaint, I replied negative. What about compliments ? Plenty! Where? Well, it's part of our job to meet customer's expectation and we should not expect compliments! Craps! Hahahahaha!
Had dinner with Diana. Celebrating her birthday in advance. Brought her to the steamboat restaurant at Shaw Tower. She enjoyed the dinner! Brought the chili paste that my maid made for her!
Will not be in office Thursday and Friday. Charlie & family would be in Singapore and I promise to take care of them! Will be at the airport to welcome them.
Back to 'travel agent' life next few days!

Ex Boss
CN was my ex boss .... in Travel and also in Telco.
When I was in CBT doing tour planning, CN was my Manager. Then, when I was in ST (same owner), she was my AGM. She was very good to me. She has never scolded me even when I made mistakes.
Then she left and moved on to Telco. Even when she was there , we still keep in touch. In fact, every 2nd day of CNY, we would go over to her mother's place for lunch.
When I got a job in Telco as AAM, she was the Director of the Department. The colleagues were not aware of my relationship with CN and we kept very minimum contact in office. In the few years in Telco, she was also a good boss. The managers and colleagues were full of praises for her.
Yesterday was her Birthday. I smsed her and she replied that I was the 5th in the group to wish her. I replied that ...at least I remember. Someone forgot mine!

中秋节
It's Mid Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival!
Probably more than 1 month ago, many places have started selling mooncakes. Lots of flavours - lotus paste, with salted egg, yam, durian, mango, etc... the list goes on. Every year, more and more new flavours. Manufacturers need to innovate, come out with new ideas!
The funny thing is no matter how expensive, people still buy! My colleague recently spent more than S$1000 on the mooncakes!
The new generation moncakes come in snow skin.... with many delicious flavours. Mango, Chempalak and durian are flavours you never thought to see than in mooncakes. They taste good but kind of strange as a mooncake.
I remember years ago, there was a video clip on how they make mooncakes. Trust me, what seeing that, you would not want to eat any! I guess many have forgotten about it!
Chinese are very into traditions and customs. It's 中秋节and many people will eat mooncakes, drink Chinese tea and carry lanterns!
This will stay........

Birthday Week (12 Sep)
Yesterday was Jiro's birthday! I met Jiro many years ago when he was in Singapore with his tour group. Being in the travel business in the past, we had a lot to talk about. Jiro works for a Travel Agency in Osaka. I had the opportunities to meet up with him a few times in Osaka over the years. I remember there was 1 year where he was not well and admitted to hospital and I actually went to visit him. Otanjobi Omedeto!
When I started as a travel agent, I remembered my 1st trip to USA. I was leading a group and had to pretend that I was rather familiar wit the places of interest. When I was in LAX, I had a guide for the city tour and Universal Studio. Alex Iskandar was my guide. We got along very well that trip and since then (1988), stayed in touch. Over the years, we have met up a few times. Alex is back in Jakarta and has settled down with 2 kids (I think).
Happy Birthday, my friend! Hope to meet up again soon!

Birthday Week (10 Sep)
Stayed up till midnight last night ...... to sms Birthday greetings to 2 good friends! To someone who sleeps before 11pm, that's a great sacrifice! To me, the sacrifice is worth it!
Sam is a good friend from KL. The last time I was in KL, he actually took time to accompany me. A recent news in the papers about his house mate went crazy and killed the pet dogs in the house, prompted him to move house. A recent job promotion and a new found love set him on a bright and happy journey for the rest of this year! Happy Birthday, Sam!
In the recent months, I met this interesting guy who is in the imports and exports of wines. I have had the opportunities to meet up for some drinks and meals. In fact, every time we meet, there's always exchanges of 'words'... never spare the other party....kill! kill! kill! Being aware of his trade, I bought him a book about 1001 wines ... too thick for him!
To this friend, my sincere greetings convey - Happy Birthday, Derrick!
More Birthday greetings to go!

Chinatown
Was at Chinatown for dinner with Gerald. Had claypot rice from the famous stall - 02-199. Had to wait for at least 25 minutes. The food was good and probably worth the wait!
It's the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Chinatown is bustling with lots of activities! There's 歌台every night but the singers are mainly old folks! Surprisingly the crowd is huge! There's also a lot of stalls selling mooncakes, lanterns, Pomelos, etc... Makes the whole place very lively!
As we were walking toward Lucky Chinatown, I noticed a strange sight. There's a lot of 'pretty' china boys hanging around. One of them was trying to approach me. Gerald was 'luckier' than me! 2 young boys tried to approach him! Hahahahaha! Well, in Geylang, you have the ladies; in Desker road, you have the 'ladies' and in Chinatown, you have the boys! These boys were preying on 'old men' like Gerald and me!
It was an interesting evening out.......in Chinatown!

Birthday Week (09 Sep)
Back in 1983 ..... when I was in Pre-U, I had the opportunity to host some Japanese Rotaractors who were in Singapore for a cultural exchange program. There was one guy who was also there to host the Japanese. He was from NUS Rotaract Club. We got along very well. During the years in Rotaract, we met up many times, and even after Rotaract, we continue to keep in touch.
Happy Birthday, Darryl! Many Happy returns!

Drama Serials
愚公移山 is the latest drama serial that I am watching. Surprised? Well, I am a great fan of magical , mystical fairy tales! I love to watch 如来神掌, 神雕侠侣, 天龙八部, 水月洞天, 我和僵尸有个约会,等等。Of course, there's a lot more and I have watched many. My favourites are those mentioned above.
With VCD, they come in 30 - 40 pieces; with DVD, they comes in about 15. I watch more during weekends and maybe 2 - 3chapters during weekdays, depending on what time I get home!
To me, it's something I enjoy. At least, I have something to occupy my weekends!

Birthday Week
It's China man's birthday again! Happy Birthday, Johnson! Johnson used to be a neighbour staying on the 11st storey. We started chatting when he passed by my office years ago. First , it was just the couple, then the 1st daughter arrived and then the 2nd daughter also arrived. Though, Johnson has moved to Bukit Gombak, we still keep in touch through msn. He has been travelling lately and just got back! Will catch up for dinner, my friend!
Ernest is a friend from KL. The 1st time I met him was in 2006. The impression was quite good as he was the only one that chatted in English to me! We continued the friendship through msn and though we hardly chat nowadays, I would still hear of his news once a while. In fact, he was in Singapore recently and I managed to meet up! Happy Birthday to you, my friend!
Today is also my maid's birthday. Every year I would give her an Ang Pow. Yanti has been with my family for more than 2 years. She has been a great help in taking care of my mum.
Sorry guys, no Ang Pow for you!

Striking Seven
When I was with BizSales few years ago, a group of us came together and called ourselves the STRIKING SEVEN. A force to reckon with!
I was the chairman, and Cheryl was the vice chairperson. Cindy was Secretary and Emily was Treasurer. Hwee Hwee was the IT support and Diana & Fiona were members. We used to take turn to buy breakfast, and also organised outings
Then, Hwee Hwee left, Emily, Fiona and Cheryl also left. Cindy got transferred to another department. I left last year and cam back recently. Diana was the only one here and she's still here!
Though we are all working at different places, we would make a point to meet up often. Tonight, we are meeting up again. I do not agree on teh venue but....majority wins! Haiz.....

Different Culture
Called Wilson last night to wish him 'Happy Birthday'. He turned 56 yesterday. Found out that he has retired and staying at house to look after his wife who has stroke. In Portugal, the Company does not believe in flexi hours and working from home and thus he has no choice but to take early retirement. He is currently living on his pension and savings. He has moved to a smaller house and also cut down unnecessary expenditure.
Asked him about his 2 children and his replied was that they have grown up and living their own lives. Over there, the children will fend for themselves when they start working. They do not stay with parents nor give pocket money to the parents. Why? It's the culture! Wilson do not expect the children to give him money, though he is retired.
I also asked him about his own well being and if he occasionally meet up with friends. I was surprised to learn that he does not have friends, only ex colleagues. He said, in Portugal, you need to be healthy in order to have friends. No one wants to catch up with him when they know he has a sick wife. They try to avoid him. That's reality!
Honestly, I am glad that I have a 'better' culture here. Many people yearns to be living in the western world but the truth is.... can we blend in with the culture? I do not envy.....

Who is King? Employee or Employer?
Was having dinner with an old friend, Anthony, last night at Akira Japanese Restaurant (Link Hotel). At the dinner were 3 of his designers from China - 3 very young ladies from Xiamen. According to Anthony, it is very difficult to employ designers and it is actually cost effective to employ from China. Unlike in the past when the designer only take care of designing, they now see through the printing, and even handle sales. Anthony said that he would bring a designer with him, leave her to discuss with customer and once everything is confirmed, take out the agreement for customer to sign!
The designers are very important to him and he must make a point to take good care of them. In his case, the staff is King!
By the way, the food at Akira .... CMI.

Bad Feng Shui
Received a call from a friend......regarding my previous Company. After I left, the Company employed 2 persons to take over my areas of work. The guy who took over my areas - Europe, Australia & New Zealand, came from another Company with experience.
Well, he has resigned and no longer in the Company. The reason was ......cannot take the stress! Just 2 months in the job and only half of what I was handling!
The seat I had was the same seat he had and that seat has changed many planners....... bad feng shui?
